    All the Empire games are like that. You can even command your allied generals on the battlefield with simple orders like attacking/defending certain guys or forts. I'd recommend Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires over the Samurai one though. It's a better experience overall.

    They're both from Tecmo but I think the staff is completely different. Plus I find 2d platform gameplay more appealing than 3d beat 'em up gameplay. I think Japanese developers are still perfectly capable of making something as awesome as the NES Ninja Gaiden Trilogy. If they would focus more on platform action instead of just combo hack 'n slashing, then they would be forced to put more effort into the level design.

  4. People keep talking about how awesome the NES Ninja Gaiden trilogy is, but it's really just the first two games that are awesome. The third game is decent at best. The controls aren't as tight as the first two games, the level designs aren't as good, the pacing isn't as nice, and the difficulty is not as balanced. What I mean by that last point is that even though the first two games are hard, you have unlimited continues to learn patterns, perfect your timing, etc. for the areas you're stuck on. In the third game, you have something like three continues and after that it's back to the beginning of the game. I still managed to finish it once, but having to play the game from the beginning each time I used up my continues was annoying.

  6. Its been a long time since I've played the third game in the Ninja Gaiden trilogy. I can't remember it that well, so it must have frustrated me to the point that I blocked it out of my memory.

    I really wish they made more than like 20 copies of the SNES version. It just goes for too much money last I checked.

  8. Yeah, ummmm I remember back in the day when we got hundreds of brand new copies in of that game back when we were Cart-Mart. We even sold a bunch to Tom at VGD. They weren't THAT rare.

  9. I never saw it in stores around here. I worked in one of the busyiest funcolands in the country when we were still getting in a ton of SNES stuff I never saw it come in in 3 years. While stuff like Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, hell Fox Hunt and that horrible Dragon Ball Z game on PS came in a couple of times. Really wish we had gotten a copy of it in. Hell my Tengen Tetris on NES I got from those days.

    Yeah, NG3 was disappointing for being more of the same but not as well designed. I still think it's pretty good although I agree it's more frustrating. And SMS Ninja Gaiden is a quality game similar to the NES trilogy. Its cinemas don't have the same artistic flare as Tecmo's but they nailed the controls. It's not the best in the series but for those that missed it and want an old-school NG game, it's worth checking out (although I wish they didn't put those damn birds in it, no one liked those in the NES games).
