I'll let you know when it happens.

No, but if I have no desire to play it, it's likely it is. The fact that a game exists doesn't justify me spending time on it. That logic seems foreign to some people here.

  3. Hard to poke any holes in that logic

This is what I got too. Surprisingly my most points came from the first section, I didn't realize how many series I had played.

A good example of my original point is Hard Drivin' being put on the same level as Devil Crush and Alien Crush combined. Devil Crush may be the best video pinball game out there, and Hard Drivin' wasn't even fun in the arcade.
This isn't true. Both the Hard Drivin' and Crush series' were in the "if you played at least one of them, you get a point" section. And while I would play Devil's Crush over Hard Drivin' any day, it's hard to argue against Hard Drivin' being an important game for 3d stunt/driving games.

The fact that a game exists doesn't justify me spending time on it.
That's perfectly fine but acting like something isn't good or significant because you haven't played it or don't want to play it is ridiculous. Ignoring stuff by nature results in less experience. Whether or not this test is flawed is up for debate but gamers that ignore games based on genre, era, region, etc.. should be scoring lower on a gaming experience test, don't you think?

And I honestly think you would like enjoy some of old Western games you missed if you played them.

That was the concession I made. My original statement was purely based on quality, not influence or importance.

I won't argue much of this, but I don't buy the logic that you have to play every game to tell if they are good or bad. There are games I will never play, because I don't have a shred of doubt about their lack of quality. There's a gray area where you have to give the game a chance to push them onto the good or bad side, but I'd say something like 50% of the games released can be categorized in about 5 minutes by reading about them or watching a video.

You tell me where I should start. Maybe give me a few choices so that I can go with the one that's easiest for me to access.

  8. I can't remember half the games I've played over the years. I fail. LOL Hunt the Wumpus I remember that.

Hmm, I would like to but I don't know which ones you have and haven't played for the most part. The easiest to access might be DOS/Windows PC games (like LucasArts adventures, Planescape: Torment), or cheap Activision compilation stuff (like HERO and Pressure Cooker), and you have probably played console ports of Amiga games (like Lemmings and Out of this World). I think some "console crash era" C64/Atari 800 stuff (like Archon, Bruce Lee, Space taxi) has aged well but you probably still don't use emulators. Emulation really is the best way to quickly try stuff and see if you want to buy the real things.

  10. I *love* that you mentioned Space Taxi. Such a rad game.

Which reminds me. I should replay Beamrider. It's easily one of the best C64 games, yet no one seems to talk about it.
