Thread: Do You Restrict Yourself in the Games You Play/Try?

  1. I used to really dig RPGs from JRPGs to SRPGs to Western RPGs, but now I pretty much can't stand any of them. Most of them have gotten too convoluted for their own good. I can go back to a lot of 16 bit RPGs and still play and enjoy them, the newer stuff just bores me after the 15th tutorial on some fucking system. Ohh and no MMOs either, I got to beta test FFXI on the PC and it was one of the worst gaming experiences of my life.

Like others I dislike the realistic stuff, from racing sims to sports games. Though there's a few I have enjoyed in the past, Beach Spikers was a damn fun game. When it comes to racing games give me F-Zero and Burnout and leave Gran Turismo and Forza for others.

There's only been one stealth game I've ever enjoyed and that was the first Metal Gear Solid, outside of that I can not stand the genre.

I've gotten a bit burnt out on the FPS genre. TF2 has been the only one I've really played at all lately, unless you consider the Metroid Prime series as part of that genre, I don't. Though if they made another Time Splitters game I would be all about that.

3D fighters is another Genre I just can not stand, there's maybe 2 or 3 out there games out there that I can play and enjoy, the rest just seem to annoy the fuck out of me.

  2. I've never touched MMOs ever since Meridian came out. There is no play value to me as it is not skill based nor do they have good narratives so not sure what kind of game experience you can really get out of it. Also, I have no interest in sports whatsoever anymore so don't ever play modern games in the genre.

Other than that, I give every genre a fair shake. I don't play many FPS/racing/sandbox games but doesn't mean I can't enjoy them.

  3. I can't imagine having any fun with a MMORPG.

Western Western is kind of neutral, but not quite since it`s still possible to tell where you`re from. So you might not actually be from the West (but you probably are). If you really want to sound "neutral," learn how to say "stock" and "stalk" differently.
I've lived in southern ontario my whole life.

  4. For me I don't know how much of it is restricting rather than just not playing certain games because I don't enjoy them. I never play sport games (aside from golf), racing games, and the shooters I play are really limited. (Lately Left 4 Dead and that's it.) I also hate war games. I've given them all a shot though, but they just bore me and I completely suck at them.

Oh, don't play horror games either. Took me a long time to be able to play L4D without flinching/yelping.

L4D isn't so much horror as inducing a feeling of helplessness when you get gang rushed. But you still have guns/melee at your disposal so you don't feel completely hopeless.

For something truly scary, turn off the lights and play Fatal Frame. That is probably the only videogame that gave me the creeps.

  6. You sound like a hick. I've played Zboz with you.

Duuuude!! I am right there with you on this one, I hate to admit that the Fatal Frame series scares me as much as it does

Thief 3's Shalebridge Cradle level and Call of Cthulhu on Xbox are the only games to date that have genuinely scared me.

  9. Doom 3 was pretty scary before I was on to its tricks. Nice atmosphere in those early levels.

The sound really sold it the first time out.

  10. MMO's: I hate with a passion.

I mainly play NHL, Madden, COD 4 & COD: World at War, SF4, and XO: Wolvie. Oh and trying to finish LO.
