Thread: Battlefield: Bad Company 2

  1. Picked it up again. Gonna spend some time re-learning everything. I hope I still have ll my unlocks.

  2. If you see me online with this, message me and we'll squad up.

  3. Some new info on the health system of this game. The slow self healing is explained and Medics DO have med packs. Sounds like its going to be similiar to the med boxes of 2142, which is a good thing. BF2's meds could spam med kits everywhere and get instant 100% health. In 2142 the boxes slowly restored you and everyone around it - and the medics were limited to dropping 1 every minute or so:

When a soldier really needs to be restored to health fast he turns to his Medic teammates. The Medic is a special breed of soldier, able to fight just as hard as their brothers in arms, but also dedicated healers. They keep their teammates in the fight as long as possible and to bring them back into the fight when they're down. In Bad Company 2 the medic has two tools to use to keep his teammates healthy.

The first tool is the Medkit, a portable first aid station that the Medic can deploy to heal the soldiers around him in the middle of combat. The Medkit begins working immediately and keeps working until the medical supplies are depleted. It also works in combat, so a soldier near a Medkit can duck behind cover to quickly heal up and be ready to get back in the fight. Just be careful where you deploy the Medkit, as even enemy soldiers will receive its healing benefits.

The second tool is the Defibrillator, also known as the Shock Paddles or the Defib for short. The Medic can use the Defib on his recently incapacitated teammates to bring them immediately back to full fighting strength. The Defib allows the medic to keep his squad and team together and fighting. In a pinch the Defib's electric shock can even be administered to healthy enemy soldiers, instantly incapacitating them.

Bad Company 2 introduces a system we call Out of Combat Healing. Like many features in Battlefield it's a reflection of a real soldier's world. Every soldier learns some basic first aid so he can patch himself up and get back into the fight. In Bad Company 2 we represent a soldier's first aid ability via the Out of Combat Heal. A soldier who's been wounded in a fight but survived will slowly heal himself. Out of Combat Healing is a not a fast process. Unlike your Medic teammate it's not going to save you in the middle of a firefight, but it will keep you from bleeding out somewhere alone on the Battlefield.

  4. This game seems to be the spiritual successor to 2142, which is the highest possible compliment I can bestow on a game !

Haven't seen you online for a while, Destro. Real life got ya tied up ?

  5. New trailer released:

Interesting to see a BF trailer not from the USA point of view. Recent announcements also confirmed unlockable BF1943 guns in BC2 for people who own that game. With all the vast improvements and a sharp lean toward being a much more hardcore BF game than Bad Company 1 - this is definately one to look for. Im pumped.

    Some new shots too.

  6. I'm stoked about the squad-only gametype. Can't wait too see what it is. This game has alot of positives going into it! March as too far off. Big question here... PC or 360 ?

  7. PC for me, no questions. It's dropping in March? I just looked the other day and it said December... crap!!!

Just watched the trailer.. oh god.. that looks so good!
look here, upon a sig graveyard.

  8. Some further details from IGN. Main points of interest for me: Ive said it a billion times but theres confirmation of the removal of the "global spotting system", which is huge. Its going to have a communication/ordering commands ring - D pad maybe? Kit customization sounds insane - with tons of options (read below for examples). People are saying the customization is a ripoff of CODMW, ever heard of BF2142 released several years prior?

Not all of the modes have been announced yet - of the supposedly 4 modes, only Conquest and Rush (formerly gold rush). Biggest news here - a beta has been announced.

The sandbox appeal of the game relies on large landscapes but Patrick is quick to point out that size isn't the only factor that matters; lots of games can have big maps, but the challenge is to pack them with enough interesting detail to give players interesting places to play. There need to be houses and villages for the infantry, large open spaces for the vehicles and no golden routes that force players into predictable paths. Still, there do need to be balanced pressure points for the maps, particularly with modes that focus on controlling key areas.

The size of the maps also supports vehicle play. The game will include 15 vehicles that run the gamut from tanks to boats to helicopters to ATVs. 15 isn't just an arbitrary number, though; the team wants to make sure that each vehicle has a purpose and a unique tactical impact on the game. The Black Hawk helicopter, for instance, can transport up to four soldiers to distant parts of the battlefield, which makes it a crucial tool in your armory.

Squad elements have been substantially improved since the original Bad Company. Players can now spawn next to their four-person teams and use special push-to-speak controls to send commands to specific members of the fire team. There were also be unique achievements and rewards for team play. Best of all, the game has done away with the global spotting system, so now you'll have to spot each enemy individually and even get close enough to see whether or not they're a friendly or an enemy. The final two of the game's four total modes will also rely heavily on squads but DICE didn't reveal more details.

In terms of destruction, Bad Company 2 is miles beyond what we've already seen. The tactical advantages of cover are much less certain now as tanks, grenades and even rifle fire can tear through objects in the game world. The upside is that blowing up walls and buildings can help players create their own fire points and open up new lines of sight. The potential for this to completely change each battle is huge, and we're hoping it doesn't just all end up with players climbing over endless fields of rubble by the end.

Kit customization is another integral part of the experience. With four classes -- assault, recon, engineer and medic --, more than 40 weapons (including three classics for 1943 owners), 200 weapon customization options, 15 gadgets, and your choice of two of 13 different specializations, players can really equip themselves according to their own needs and not the expectations of the designers. So if you want to be a medic with an M1 Garand, a defibrillator, a stamina boost and a few extra clips, you can do it. Or you might be an engineer with mortar strikes and improved armor. Or a recon soldier with motion sensors and red dot scopes.

The new achievements are grouped into four broad categories. 50 ranks measure your overall score and progress through every stage of the game. 40 pins provide rewards for performance within an individual round, like getting a certain number of kills. 228 stars rank your performance with each individual weapon, so you can see where you and your opponents are strongest. Finally, 40 insignias reward the long term investment of players with recognition of things like the length of time played overall.

Fans of the game can try it out on the show floor or wait until the upcoming beta is launched, which was announced during our demo.

Soldier of Fortune 2 multi also did kit customization back in the day. Also, is 2142 ever gonna get patched ? Damn !

Im sure the beta is a ways off I wanna play this game for myself !

  10. New shots and video of a new desert map called Atacama Desert. Featuring sandstorms that lower visability. Pretty clever as it looks to give cover to infantry even in an open, expansive space. The gameplay video looks incredible. Honestly this is going to murder MW2.
