Thread: Original Arcade Shinobi Gets A Remake...

  1. Shinobi III: Tons of options and power to the player at expense of challenge. It's got some cool spectacle scenes, but I don't think I like it as much as Revenge, the original, or Shadow Dancer AC or MD.

The original is awesome, and so is Revenge.

  2. I wanna see a remake of Altered Beast. Even though it sucked as a game, Altered Beast had FUCKING great graphics for 1988, far better than arcade Shinobi in 1987, even though they were made for the same board: System 16.
(okay okay Altered Beast was on System16B which had hardware scaling while Shinobi was on the original System 16 which didn't have scaling, otherwise they're the same board).

  3. I really never much got into any of the shinobi games. I've played pretty much all of them, they just never really clicked for me.

re: double dragon - there was a tiny pizza place about two minutes from my place growing up. I played it so much that I got to the point where I could one credit the game everytime.

Eat elbow Abobo you dirty SOB.

  4. This is how I rank the classic 2D Shinobi games:

    1. Revenge of Shinobi
    2. Shinobi III
    3. original System 16 arcade Shinobi
    4. System 18 arcade Shadow Dancer
    5. Megadrive/Genesis Shadow Dancer

I actually really liked SMS Rastan back then. It played well enough although the graphics could have been better (it was probably based on the MSX2 version instead of made for SMS from the ground up). It was best home substitute until the Apple IIGS version anyway.

And Yoshi, Kenseiden's on Gametap if that interests you. They seem to cycle through different games they put up for free play. Maybe they'll do it sometime.

  6. Ninja Five-O > Shinobi

Even tho the graphics isn't that great for NFO.

  8. And speaking of memorable arcade jams composed by Zuntata:

This track alone kept me coming back to play this damn quarter muncher. So much so that I would bring a tape recorder with me just so I could listen to it when I ran out of money. God bless the internet.

EDIT: Ok this is just cute as all get out and just as cool:

I miss bowling alley gaming. Had an alley like two minute's walk from my house, and that's where I came to love games like Gauntlet, Double Dragon, WWF Wrestlefest, Power Drift, Rastan, GoinDol, and a lot of other things. I'd always be there in the early afternoons, and it would be dead, so I could play whatever I wanted without having to fight over machines with anybody else.

I also remember hanging out and talking with the older guy who worked there that always walked to discuss NES games with me. You know, typing that here now, even though the guy was always nice and never did anything weird, for some reason that sounds a little creepy.
