Exactly, but even then you don't come out and say something is pay to win.
You have stuff like League of Legends, that's free to play, but pay to unlock. Some options might be better than others, but then you might have people who haven't spent a dime cleaning house against people who have dropped $200.
You're on the money on the "Why are you even playing?" line of questioning though.
The difference is that LOL is a competitive game. Having "pay-to-win" in Lost Swords is no different than buying one of those "time saver packs" that every EA game has had for the last 8 years. I'm having a good amount of fun with Lost Swords, and I didn't pay for it. Crafting weapons from rare drops, etc is actually more fun than I would have expected. If I already had the best armor/swords/etc I don't think I'd be as compelled to keep playing.
Tekken Revolution is a competitive game, so if you could just pay money to make your guy more powerful, that would be very bad. Lost Swords doesn't have that issue.
Right. It's just a slippery slope is all.
Except Namco's game makes it damned near impossible to get everything without paying to win. You would need to play for years to get through it and the slow progress would be obnoxious as hell. Free to Play can work really well, LoL and Hearthstone get it right. But 90% of big companies don't get how to use it correctly.

Yeah, Hearthstone is really great about it.
I don't think you would ever need "everything" in Lost Swords Mzo. Each character only has 2 A rank weapons (at least, as it is now) and I got both of Mitsurugis by day 7 of playing. Now it's about leveling that sword up, and getting better allies and better armor. I still have a shitload of missions to finish as well, and there are weekly events.
Have any of you guys commenting on this actually played Lost Swords?
