Got my starter kit from Retro Razor today. Just finish shaving with it for the first time. It took longer than normal, although I attribute much of that to my being more careful than was probably necessary. I have to say, it was a fun, relaxing experience. It's also the closest shave I've ever given myself. This was a good idea, whoever brought this up.
On the minus side, I now really hate myself for paying the extortion rate for razors all these years.
You'll get faster with practice. Personally, I enjoy taking my time.

It is funny that I find this thread over the weekend as I have been pondering this change for awhile now. I hate shaving as it is due to the irritation and the lack of quality provided by electrics and disposables.
I have decided on a setup like the one below, the Merkur Futur seems to be a favorite amongst safety razor users. Getting a 100 pack of blades for $10.00 is going to be awesome... damn the 18 dollar disposable 5 packs.....
You guys use cream? I just lather up some soap and go to work. I'm not that fancy. (I do use an expensive after shave balm, though.)
I currently use this stuff. It's pretty awesome.
The shop in Harvard Square where I picked up my fancy new tobaccee pipe this weekend has a pretty extensive case full of shaving paraphernalia. Safety razors and such. When I go back, I will get started on this Important Project.
