Thread: Converting Wireless router to repeater?

  1. Converting Wireless router to repeater?

Well, I don't have my own internet access here at the house, so I connect to a Church down the street with an open network to get online.

My mom has an extra Linksys WRT45g wireless router that I think can be flashed to become a Signal repeater. Is this worth looking into, or will I be able to connect to networks at more than 1 bar strength?

Looking for some advice from you tech savvy folks here.

Essentially I want something I can hook up to my Laptop that will let me piggyback internet access from open wireless networks that will boost the signal so I get more than a 1 bar signal strength.

  4. You're not going to be able to do this unless you can access the churches admin settings for their router. if you can, then it's possible only if they're using a router that supports bridging (such as the one you specified).

I'm banking on the login information being this:

    username: linksys
    password: admin

    Try it and report back.

  6. Oh, yeah, is admin/admin. I love it.

Actually, the church hotspot I access is a Verizon Wireless modem/router combo, I forget the exact model right now, but still, the admin/admin seems to work.
