Thread: Joust Really Hates the Wii. Still.

  1. I just watched the video review of The Conduit and Joust is whining about nothing. It's a perfectly fair review that acknowledges the game's shortcomings and gives it an 8.6. It's perfectly reasonable if you aren't angry at the Wii for some reason. The Conduit is a pretty cool game, and it's the ONLY game I've played on the Wii where I really felt like the Wii controller was a real asset and enhancement to the experience.

While 10s are ridiculous, it's very easy to over-score something as big as GTAIV. I gave it a 4 out of 5 and, the more time passes, the more I think I was too kind. The thought of playing it again bores me so much that I haven't even checked out Lost & Damned, which I hear corrects a lot of the problems of IV. I'll probably also pass on Ballad of Gay Tony. GTAIV is one of those games that seems amazing when you first play it but ages very badly.

  3. It was kind of old when it was called GTAIII?

I understand getting caught up in the hype of playing a cool new game (I regret giving Bioshock a 5/5 in my GN/TNL review) but multiple people giving GTA4 a 10 for gameplay especially strikes me as odd considering some of the on-foot controls that weren't fixed from previous games.

I don't buy it. If a game came out looking like that on any other system, it'd get like a damn 4. The entire game is a shortcoming. The AI sucks, the level design sucks, the graphics suck, the weapons suck, the enemies suck, the multiplayer gets laughed at by every B-or-better game on any other system. Oh, except the mythical controls, which seem to be the selling point of the game. So now I know what I need to do. Make a fucking box map with great controls. Doesn't matter if the rest of the game sucks. Conversely, if Timeshift came out for Wii, Matt would piss himself, pimp it on every podcast and give it a 9.5 and say SHIT WII OWNERS WE'VE FINALLY MADE IT

    Crap, I took the bait

IGN gave HL2: EP1 an 8.5. Same score as Shivering Isles, NFS Most Wanted, Condemned and a lot of other stuff. Whatever, I'm not buying it so I don't know why I care.

Dude, graphics have been rated compared to other games on the hardware since the beginning of game journalism. You're just taking a stand now? It's being reviewed as a Wii game. We all understand that except you.

I'll give you the enemies, but the level design and AI is average at worst and the multiplayer is a hoot. You don't really know what you're talking about.

I thought that review did a good job at letting me know what to expect: an unoriginal yet well-made FPS resembling Perfect Dark in style and controlling better than Red Steel. I'll buy it when it hits $20.

  8. You play worse FPSes than I do then if this level design is 'average at worst'. Maybe SoF3 or something. Oh that game got a 4 I think

  9. Do you even have the game, Joust?

  10. No, I didn't get SoF3. I might change my mind though if a Wii port comes out and Matt gives it a 9.

Maybe the video just isn't indicative of the game at all. Maybe the game rocks ass but they had a contest to see who could cut the worst footage ever. It is IGN, after all.
