Thread: 2009 NFL Season Thread of WOO PLAYOFFS!

  1. Plus with how the Texans are their bus will just catch fire if they make it to he playoffs.

Do you think their lack of ability in a big game is based off their coaching or is it something maybe behind their leaders like Schaub?

I dont think its Matt Schaub at all, b/c with the exception of a few bad throws he's had an exceptional season and has shown tremendous toughness and leadership.

With the exception of Eric Winston, its our a combination of our offensive line's weakness at opening up the running lanes along with our lack of caliber play making running backs. Slayton had his nice rookie season last year but he's been a turnover machine this season and now he has a nerve injury and is out for the season, but he was averaging shit yardage and Ryan Moats (with the exception of the 100 yrd game against Buffalo and a good game clock finishing drive at St Louis) has been unimpressive as well. Chris Brown is an unmitigated disaster and I want him cut from the team asap, the guy is a liability and I personally hold him responsible for 3 losses this season. As for yesterday, Foster was some rookie we carved up from the street and he fumbled on his first possession... way to ruin your golden opportunity.

Steven Jackson of the Rams is running behind a horrible o-line in St Louis but he still managed to out rush us and put out big bursts of yardage despite having to move around his line since no gaps opened up for him to dash through. Imagine if the Rams had a quality o-line to help open up inside lanes? They wouldn't be 1-13 for sure.

So for the Texans its been:

1.) No ground game at all, and this falls on the lack of quality in the RB position and on the O-line (who have been great at pass protection but lousy at opening the running game)

2.) Horrible year for special teams, no great return yardage from Davis or Jacoby Jones who were excellent for the past two seasons. Kicker Kris Brown has lost his edge, his confidence is shot and he's shanking kicks left and right. Blame him for 2 losses this year, big divisional losses to boot. I've always liked Brown but I have to say its time to get a new kicker or at least make him compete for the gig.

3.) Owen Daniels and Chester Pitts injuries. Daniels loss was huge, he was our second go to guy after A J, and we've had to rely on Anderon, Walters instead to pick up the slack when A J has double, triple coverage. They do a good job but they've been seeing alot of zone coverage themselves - its getting hard to thread the needle, and Schaub saw the effects of that in the four game losing streak that we suffered.

Coaching... eh, honestly, since it looks like Cowher will be far more interested in Carolina, and the fact that we're not structured defensively with the personel to accomodate his scheme, I dont see him as a realistic option. Shanahan is Washington bound and I don't see Dungy coming out of retirement anytime soon. I'm also really weary of starting over again anyway. Any coaching changes will usually come with a setback season where adjustments and personel changes have to be accomodated. I say Kubiak deserves the last year on his contract in 2010, and we'll see what happens. He gets criticized here b/c he doesnt wear his emotions on his sleeve but if you listen to his press conferences, his radio interviews on the local sports talk radio, you can tell he's a concerned coach, he does give a shit and is trying to do what he can. I like Kube and hope he can get shit turned around next season.

IBTN. I love that the Falcons traded picks that turned into LaDanian Tomlinson and Drew Brees so that they could start Michael Vick over Matt Schaub.

  6. WHAT AN UPGRADE!

    Nick Folk or Shawn Shuisham?

Suisham's first game will be on Sunday against the Redskins. In 12 games for the Redskins this season, Suisham made 18 of 21 field goal attempts, with a long of 48 yards.

There's no word yet on whether the Cowboys have cut Folk, as Ed Werder of ESPN reported that they might put him on injured reserve. But either way, Suisham is now the Cowboys' kicker.
So ... Holmgren is now the President of the Cleveland Browns.

He has given them an answer.

    And the answer is yes.

Holmgren has agreed to become President of the team. Mike Keenan, who previously occupied that role, will become the team's CFO.

"We are pleased to announce that Mike Holmgren has agreed to join the Cleveland Browns," owner Randy Lerner in a statement released by the team. "We will spend the rest of the week finalizing the details of the agreement and will make a formal announcement next week, at which time we will make him available to the media."
We're not sure what Lerner envisions by way of a "formal announcement" next week, given that the news of Holmgren's arrival has been, you know, formally announced by the team.
Maybe there will be a party, complete with confetti and cake and a special appearance by Eric the Clown.
Which, of course, that might be the current head coach's trade name come 2010.
    Trouble in Minnesota!

Per separate reports from ESPN and the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Childress previously tried to pull Favre on two other occasions.

Per ESPN, the first one came on October 5 against the Packers, after Favre audibled to a long pass late in a game that the Vikings led by 10 points with 3:27 to play. We criticized the decision at the time, though it wasn't clear whether Childress called the deep pass at a time when the Vikes could have milked the clock, or whether Favre had changed the play at the line in order to further "stick it" to Green Bay G.M. Ted Thompson.

Chilldress reportedly was furious, but offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell persuaded Chilly to chill out.

When Favre learned of the near-benching, he confronted Childress, who blamed it on the emotion of the game.

Then, on November 15, Childress tried to do it again early in a 27-10 win over the Lions.

On the prior two occasions, Favre didn't say anything about it to he media. This time, however, he popped off -- and that apparently caused Chilly to blow a gasket, according to Tom Powers of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Powers believes that he was in the vicinity of the visiting coach's office last night when Childress learned about Favre's comments -- and that Childress emerged from the office "like a wild man" and "went ballistic."

Bottom line? It's a mess right now in Minnesota, and that's good news for ESPN, since the Monday Night Football slate ends next week with a suddenly spiced-up game between the Vikings and the Bears.

I'll defer to you as a miss expert, since your QB hasn't even completed 60% of his passes for his career.

  10. And you'd think I'd disagree with you?

ps: I'd take it more of as a compliment, since I thought it was lower.
