BTW - cynical - i've been told to go with an Ibanez starter kit - are Ibanez guitars really the good 'metal' guitars as ppl have been telling me they are? I know nothing about guitars yet so i'm blindly seeking advice everywwhere.
Heheh, I wouldn't stay for Mudvayne either, except maybe to wing this magnum bottle of Woodchuck Hard Apple Cider at the singer's head (is this shit like Apple Jacks? It doesn't taste much like apples...).

Heheh, that Opeth concert lands on the day I graduate. Otherwise I might have headed down there for the hell of it. I could do worse than seeing Opeth.

Well, going entirely on what other metal-playing guitarists have told me, Ibanez guitars are pretty good, as are Jackson guitars (at least, those two always seem to turn up). Of course, you could ask 50 guitarists and get 50 different answers (some swear by Gibson, B.C. Rich, or any number of others).

I guess if you're just starting out, you can do worse than an Ibanez. Just make sure it feels comfortable for you. Early on, it's less about the guitar itself and more what you do with it, unless you're REALLY particular about the sound you want. Once you get better at guitar you might want to try out different ones.

Perhaps the most famous Ibanez freak I can think of is John Petrucci of Dream Theater before he went to another brand. He had a pretty good sound on Images and Words and Awake IMO.

So Lacuna Coil is actually gonna be there?

Lucky SOB... Tapping the Vein and Paradise Lost were terrible

and FYI, Damnation has been leaked... but i think i'm gonna hold out until the official release

    damn it's tempting

  3. i know - i was offered the entire album - I declined. I am going to wait for release day when I can buy a copy of the album - hold the booklet in my hands and leaf through it in the car and enjoy the album in its entirety with shaking hands - however people's early impressions are fantastic!!

exactly - i mean - I just am starting out so I am looking for affordability (around 200 bucks) and a basic setup. I'm hoping to find a good deal on a ibanez starter kit if possible - i know nothing technical about guitars to a large extent - but for my first one i just want to get something thats good enough for the money i pay for it and is fun to play and comfortable.

I have an Ibanez RG470 and a RG120 and a crappy little Fender squire.

The 120 was $200 and has pretty good crunch also Ibanez have fast neck that are great to learn for scales and solo's. Downside to this one though is that the pickups arent too good for soft stuff, also the strings came riding high off the neck, which i fixed and got lower but this isnt something you should do yourself if you don't know much about guitars.

The 470 has a double locking tremlo so it was a pain to tune at first but then i got it rose blocked anyway. this one i love perfect string height and the pick ups do both crunch and a soft clean warm tone to my liking.

Squire sucks, but thats what i learned on and you more than likely wont notice the diffrence for awhile like i did.

Heres a link to Ibanez sutt at musicians friend.
    http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/...=home?q=Ibanez

You might want to check out pawn shops for deals.

Like Sphere suggested i would check out diffrent stuff to see what you like.

Also for amps i have a crate half stack which i dig. crate is usually the best price quality deal you can get.

Only other makes of amps i'd get is Fender, Marshall or mesa boggie, line 6, most others i've come across suck like peavy

  5. when i'm new - i doubt i'll notice anything except - "whoa that was cool!" heh

Well, that's the way most people are. That's why a starter should go for a comfortable, price-effective axe. You aren't going to be recording or gigging from the get-go (unless you join a grindcore band, and they aren't notorious for caring about sound).

  7. yeah - affordablility and comfortableness (and coolness factor of the guitar's looks - heh) are my main concerns - i want to feel good playing it. I'm more inclined to just get a starter kit - how much do you think Ibanez starter kits range from - 150 - 300?

Depends on where you shop. The LIST PRICE of a guitar starter kit is around $350, but for now you can get one at musiciansfriend.com for $249 plus shipping(if you do any searches for it, it's called the Jumpstart Pack).

That's assuming you want a six-string. They also have one for the 7-string for $350-500, but of course, 7-strings are wacky and only a few people use them (like prog and nu-metal musicians). Strangely, it also comes with a 25% off gift certificate to Hot Topic (HAHAHAHAH!!!!).

Might seem expensive but you can't really beat that price for all the shit that comes with it (amp, guitar, strap, bag, picks, book and chord chart, et al). But I don't know about the quality of the stuff they put in these starter kits, so caveat emptor.

The Ibanez start up kits were in my link...........no one cared to look.....=(

  10. heh - checked out your link astral - cool site - but i'd need to see and hold this guitar in person before i buy it - but a good reference anyway.

I've been thinking - alot of that stuff in starter kits I don't really need - shit - all I want is a guitar, a decent practice amp, a strap and perhaps a pedal switch (what do they call the pedals that let you alternate between distortion and clean sound?). Thats pretty much it - i might just buy that stuff separatley - what the hell do i need with the other stuff really.
