  1. Just gonna jump in here and change the topic...

Holy shit Slipknot's "Iowa" is fucking amazing! I've had this album for over a year, but am listening to it now more than ever. I've been into metal and hardcore for a long time now, but this is possibly the most brutal, dark, and just plain heavy album I've ever heard. I'm drunk right now, so that might be affecting my opinion somewhat.

Maybe, but only if it was like "Bleak" where there were also parts of him taking a small shit to parallel him taking the enormous one.

If by drunk you mean "retarded," then I suppose so. I thought Slipknot sucked even when I was falling-down drunk.

Winter's "Into Darkness" crushes Slipknot any day. They may not play fast but you can't beat that band for "dark and heavy." Unless you listen to Esoteric (UK), but that's more of a LSD-induced nightmare set to music than it is metal...

  6. Just got Opeth's "Damnation", and am more than blown away. I'll be listening to this record for a long time now - its on its 5th straight spin - I fucking love it. To be fair to the band and this album, I'm not going to compare it to other Opeth albums simply because I believe that one really can't - this one stands off by itself, which is fine for it. While I would compare say Still Life and Blackwater Park, or Blackwater with Deliverance - because those have the traditional alternating dynamics, whereas Damnation of course does not.

With that being said this album might be the greatest 'mellow' album in any music genre overall that I've ever heard. I'm excited that they took some parts out of the Morden I Grottan track by Sorskogen for inclusion in a track in this album - that song was too strong to throw away. But my absolute favorite right now is "In My Time Of Need". Just an ridiculously incredible album.

Just out of curiosity, where did you get it? I'm going to check out Best Buy and Circuit City tonight, but the chances of them having it are slim.

  8. I got mine a week ago from the end records webstore... but I also found it for sale at Borders on Saturday (3 days before the release date)

  9. Just got back from about five different music stores; my friend found a copy at Circuit City, and I found one on sale at Borders. I haven't listened to it yet, so my initial impressions will probably be posted sometime tomorrow.

Had it not been for Borders, I would have been forced to "pull a FirstBlood" and pay $18.99 for it at FYE. I see that you learned your lesson after the Deliverance fiasco a few months ago.

*shakes head* those are incompetent brethen stores of ours - the one I work at we make sure to stay strictly by the release date - but I thought it was cool that Borders actually put this album on sale - fucking badass - it was on our sales sheets and everything - when they did it with Deliverance it was a FIRST for a death metal release (Cradle of Filth would take honours for black metal with damnation and a day). I was impressed with the sticker on the album having a quote from a review by Rollingstone Magazine no less - thats pretty cool for Opeth.
