Thread: The Metal Thread 4.0

  1. haha - I think at a few times that Greely could actually be somewhat decent, but as far as bringing him back - argh please no. I've also heard that he was dismissed because Jon was getting sick of the fact that Greely is an outright racist/bigot, so I don't think there's any chance of him returning.

  2. Whoa, haven't posted in this thread for ages, kind of forgot about it...

Just wanted to point out something (though I'm a few months late, ack) - the first Summoning song I sent to CynicalSphere was actually the song he didn't like in the first place, Where Hope and Daylight Die. Good thing I sent him A Distant Flame Before the Sun or he could have missed out on a fucking awesome band I actually really like Where Hope and Daylight Die, but to be perfectly honest, when I sent him the song I didn't know which to send him, I didn't even know the song titles. I could recognize a Summoning song but I rarely bothered memorizing the title. This one was the shortest on the CD other than the intro (still 6+ minutes), and with his dialup connection I wanted to make it less painful, but thankfully we eventually had enough time/patience for me to send him the 9-min. long one.

I also want to point out a disagreement: Moonsorrow is fucking awesome. I love the guimbarde! "Boing yoing boing yoing..."
My favourite song by them is probably the second one on their first full-length, I'll be damned if I can remember that incomprehensible Finnish title though.. Sankaharinauta? Something along those lines anyway.

Anyway, for those who didn't know already (not sure, but unless I missed it, it didn't seem like it was posted here), there's a North American tour this Fall (October for Montreal) with Helloween and Jag Panzer. I'm not a huge Helloween fan but I do love some of their songs and Jag Panzer kicks ass, so I'm there!

There's also a Samael North American tour but they aren't coming to Canada god FUCKING DAMMIT! This pisses me off, I always wanted to see them live. They've been to Montreal before, why not again? Argh!

Also, apparently Dimmu Borgir are in talks with Children of Bodom, Hypocrisy and Nevermore for a North American tour (I can already hear CynicalSphere gag ). That could be pretty cool, I hope it happens.

  3. children of bodom? Ooooohhh they better come to houston ! FUCK YEHA.

I know who to thank for telling CS about Summoning.. I would have never heard them perhaps were it not for him.

A Distant Flame before the Sun totally owns too.

I thank everyone for the collective Summoning influence. Giving into peer pressure is good for your taste.

Heheheh, yeah, that's pretty much how it all transpired. WHADD is still probably my least favorite post-Lugburz Summoning song; I just think it's kinda bland.

Summoning used to have some real howlers for song titles before they became Tolkien freaks. One of their demos has a song called "In the Name of the Holy Penis." Kinda hard to forget a song title like that...

Haha, I'd only gag if I had to actually go. I probably would go see CoB, though, just to yell "Play Behind Space!" in between every song just to see the reaction...

That would be brilliant. You make me want to go and do it myself.

  8. Hehe, Summoning does own. \m/ (This place needs a proper \m/ icon )

Behind Space? The In Flames song? Not sure I get it...

  9. I dont get it either.

  10. It's basically a joke about the fact that, if you took away the keyboards and more elaborate guitar solos, CoB and In Flames would sound a lot alike. It'd be funny (in my mind, at any rate) to play a guy who walked into CoB and thought he was watching In Flames.

Plus, I do that to hassle bands sometimes. At the last hardcore show I went to, I kept yelling "PLAY SOME GREEN DAY!" and "WHERE'S (another band that was playing that night)?!"
