It's like cockmania in all your mouths.

I guess I should play the first game and see what all the fuss is about.
HA! HA! I AM USING THE INTERNET!!1
    My Backloggery

  2. Try this: http://store.steampowered.com/app/11020/

It's free. Only one of the seven environments but it's still amazing.

The title is kind of confusing since there were 4 games in the series already, but the last one rolled the first three into one big supergame + all the Legos.

The sad part about this new thing is that it seems like starting back over with only some of the Legos again. It'll have 3 sets, where United had like 7, I think. It reminds me a bit of KoF XII where it's great to be moving ahead with new assets, but you know they have to go back and build up the series again as a result.

  4. Maybe they'll pull a Trackmania Original 2 like they did when they brought the original Trackmania to the Sunrise engine.

  5. United is a pretty fucking hard act to follow. If you want to talk about games you can play forever and not burn out, that's high on the list. I feel a little bad for them.

I mean Nations (the one-environment free version, for those who don't know) itself proved to be so engrossing that some people never bothered to buy United, not because they didn't like it, but because Nations alone was enough for them.

  6. that's most of my friends, right there >:x

While leaderboards with replays are cool, the best part of the game is probably playing it online. They really are just giving away the best chunk of the game out for free, because of the online play and because so many people love the Stadium above all other environments.

I'm actually really pumped for splitscreen, the more I think about it.

  7. It's criminal how much split screen is neglected in PC gaming for no good reason. The industry just assumed that PC gamers don't have real-life friends. Last game I remember doing it was World Racing 2.

  8. I'm sitting here in this comfy as hell chair playing Batman with a 360 pad on this gorgeous 1080p monitor. It's only 23 inches, but it's huge (almost too big) and couldn't be more clear from where someone could sit while using it. I already sit around with friends and play MAME games on this thing. Split screen with this just makes too much sense.

The Nations leaderboards dwarfed United. Releasing 90% (100%?) of the Stadium environment blocks for free was a little too generous, I guess. I doubt that they'll do the same for the sequel.

  10. Stadium was Nations exclusive until United came out like a year later. United did add some more pieces, but then I think Nations Forever incorporated those back into the free game.

It reminds me of the old shareware days, really. There are ups and downs to it. I mean sure, the vast majority of people who played Doom never bought the registered version, but on the other hand the model increased the game's visibility severalfold.
