Thread: Trackmania 2 announced (+ offscreen video)

  1. i'm taking back the term "arcade racer" and using it exclusively for arcade racing games.

It was until EA realized how much better Burnout was than NFS and sabotaged the whole thing.

    Yep, still not.
It's impossible to be this wrong.

I love Burnout 2 and 3 to death. Downhill since then.

Then I'm an asshole, fuck off.

  6. Before this thread degenerates, I should point out why this looks so fuckawesome just in case you're not familiar with the series.

The big draw in Trackmania is that all of the tracks are generated from a powerful in-game editor. You build the track out of bits and pieces of developer-created geometry. Turbo boost here, jump here, loop here, etc. Kind of like that old Stunts game.

Even with that limitation, you can already get some brilliant tracks (skip to 55 seconds):

Trackmania 2's editor works the same way except you're also given the option of importing your own custom geometry. For a game with such a creative fanbase, this is pretty massive.

And if past performance is any indication, it'll have a razor-sharp driving model. ..with turbo boosts, jumps, loops and all sorts of crap you won't find in any other racer.

If that doesn't sound interesting to you, shrug.

  7. I have United on Steam. It's okay I guess. Fun in short bursts. The experience just seems kinda empty to me. Gets boring quickly. I don't mess around with the editor and don't care about leaderboards, so maybe I'm missing the point...

Downhill since Takedown isn't saying much. What isn't? Revenge and Paradise are still fantastic.

  8. I guess it helps if you're into time attack. And stuff like Super Meat Boy. By that I mean it's a hard game (if you're going for golds) with short levels and instant restarts.

Since that's pretty much my dream racer, I like it a lot.

In related news, Stuntman: Ignition is also rad.

  9. I did get a bit burned out on TM singleplayer, but multi is pretty fun. Small-scale time competition instead of stiff boring leaderboards.

  10. I blame this thread for making me re-install Trackmania Sunrise Nations Forever Star Alpha Turbo'. And for keeping me up to 6:30AM last night working on some of the platforming levels.
