Hawks are awesome. Nice goal by Toews.

I still like the early '90s Blackhawks better, but the current version is fun to watch.
This is my favorite thing about Marty, really. The quote is from Ottawa's rookie Erik Karlsson.
Perhaps that's because he has talent and reflexes and plays a stand-up style? I'm just guessing here.
It was the first time in his career he faced Brodeur.
“If you look at him, you can’t understand how he can be so good,” said the rookie. “He has the old gear and he doesn’t look very big, but somehow he saves a lot of great shots.”

It still baffles and irritates me that Bettman and his cronies thought the trapezoid was a better way to increase scoring than making goalies wear reasonably sized equipment. Makes you wonder what the real motivation was.
They couldn't make the goalies wear smaller padding, the equipment makers didn't have enough time to set up the product line.
I mean the real motivation is obvious: hinder Brodeur. I mean it's not even a secret, half the analysts have said so outright and the other half have alluded to it.
I'll never forget one game at the old stadium where Steve Smith got in a fight. Beat the guys ass and they both went to the box. The box at Chicago Stadium was the type where there was no timekeeper between the two sides so there was just a pain of glass. The opposition guy kept jarring off so Smith broke the glass panel down onto the other guy, climbed over and beat his ass some more. When he got kicked out he did the championship belt motion. Fucking classic.
I still feel stopping play by calling penalties hurts the flow of a game more than benefit it. They should make the rinks bigger (ala European rinks) so there's more room out there. With 10 players and 3-4 officials it just gets so damn clogged up.
I play the position and I've always felt goalies are too big. The first time I put on an adult regulation set of equipment I felt like a small child. The shit was enormous.
