They'd have to put the time in making the first one a game though.

I feel like Shenmue 1 could be made better by subtraction. It was never meant as a full game, just as the first chapter of what later became Shenmue II.

Sega Registers Shenmue HD, Shenmue Remaster Domains

As spotted by Sega Nerds and Tssz, Sega of Europe has registered internet domains for the websites ShenmueHD.com and ShenmueRemastered.com, hinting at a possible announcement of a HD remaster of the critically acclaimed Japanese simulation series.

None of these means a Shenmue re-release is guaranteed, but with the series creator Yu Suzuki working on the 6.6 million dollar kickstarted Shenmue III, a collection consisting of the first two games in the series isn’t out the realm of possibility.

Sega currently owns the rights to the Shenmue series so any word on the remaster would come through them but with the third game in development it would seem that now would be the perfect time to bring Shenmue into the current generation.

I had absolutely no expectation that this would come out this year, so I can't say I'm bothered by the delay. It really wouldn't be a Shenmue game if it wasn't overstuffed and over-schedule.
