I've beaten this game two other times (SNES and GBA) and this was the hardest version. Has one played the spinoff/sequel on the VC?
Yeah I have to agree on this. I finished it but damned if it wasn't really hard to do it.

  2. Just Cause 2. It was pretty good. Missions are pretty varied. Though the game may be to big for it's own good. I finished all the factions missions and takeovers and only got 39% WTF.

  3. I beat Shenmue II for the first time over the weekend. One of the more memorable experiences of my gaming life.

It expanded on the story and gameplay of the first to great effect, showing some depth of character that really surprised me. I got sick of the QTEs by the end, but they were interesting enough to keep the game from becoming a chore.

I did miss the structure of the first, however. I liked how it mimicked real life, and took place in a smaller area. The first game felt more cohesive, with much more revisiting of locations and people.

Shenmue II, however, was far more exciting. I felt bad for fleecing the Roll It On Top guy, but oh wells. And the entire final part on Guilin was beautifully done.

Experiencing the journey with Ryo, seeing what he went through and how things affected him, was a unique experience I not had with another game.

  4. #8 Dark Spire: Took me almost 50 hours according to save file, but I have restarted numerous times to get rare drops, unexpected dying, etc. Got all 3 endings, and this game is infinitely more satisfying than Etrian Odyssey.

  5. Dark Spire's terrible interface design ruined the game for me especially after basking in EO's near-perfection. I don't care if it was intentional as part of the homage (which is just pathetic). A clunky user-antagonistic interface does not make for a pleasant experience. It didn't then. It doesn't now.

  6. I'm with Compass on this one.

  7. It wasn't that bad, and unlike EO, it was fast. I like EO better.

The second disc of the Dreamcast version sticks in my mind like few games have. No matter the technical limitations, I'm still taken by the charm and lushness of those beautiful natural elements.

  9. The problem I have with Etrian Odyssey is that unless you have the foresight to create the correct character builds, you won't be able to beat the real boss. While DS is heavily biased toward magic in the later stages, at least you have the choice to go multiclass in the middle game and beef up your magic. I didn't have much problem with DS' interface.

  10. But the issue is it will take you like 1 hour to level up the correct characters, but yeah I haven't bothered with the last last last boss of EO2.
