My God did I love this game. I loved everything about the 1st except the gameplay (I have yet to play through it). This I could get into. Playing a 3rd person shooter with RPG trimmings sits better with me than playing an RPG with 3rd person tacked on. I kept everyone alive. Got everyone loyal except Miranda. My Paragon wasn't high enough to pick the blue option while her and Jack fought. I sexed Jack during the game, then Tali before the final battle. Then in the Epilogue I banged Morinth and died. Great shit.
Demon's Souls - Sixth completion, this time as a Temple Knight. I've been reading a lot about the Crusades lately, so I thought it might be cool to create a faith-based Joan of Arc-type build: blessed weapons and miracles. She ended up doing a ton of damage by the end of the first cycle, as blessed weapons increase damage as you level up faith - mine was over 50 at the final boss fight.
Certain enemies and levels caused a problem, since I wasn't using ranged attacks: the Maneater and Armored Spider bosses, and of course the Valley of Defilement. Oddly (or perhaps not so), the final boss and Doran didn't cause much of a headache....maybe because I've played through this game six times in the last year, lol.
Anyways, it was a fun build to play. I probably had the most fun as Kho Nahnn the Barbarian (strength build, no armor, huge-ass sword) - he's the only character I'd consider maxing to level 712 because it's such a blast flattening enemies in one hit. I think I'll try an all-ranged character next: bow, crossbow, & throwing knives only......have to be high dexterity and endurance with light armor.....might have problems in Stonefang and Shrine of Storms.....oh dear I'm getting carried away again....
Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA
That autotune robo voice shit needs to die but besides that it's a neat little f-chan rhythm game. Nice presentation. I should see if I unlocked any of the classic Sega stuff in it.
Chibi Robo
It's too bad this overstayed its welcome by a few too many hours as it was quite brilliant early on. Overall though, it's a pretty charming game that lets you freely explore and discover stuff. The order you do stuff isn't rigidly set but they manage to keep new events coming.
Metroid Other M
This is the first game in a while that I've completed so it was quite an accomplishment for it to actually hold my interest long enough to do so, though it is not a long game. Overall, I thought this was a fantastic effort by Team Ninja though it did have its flaws. The FPS search segments were cumbersome and the behind-the-shoulder scenes felt out of place at times. I don't place much weight in videogame stories, and I do think the criticisms towards the story are exaggerated, though the conclusion was rushed and didn't fit well with earlier pacing, and there was a bit too much of Samus talking at times. Otherwise, the gameplay was tight, felt very much like I'd expect from a Team Ninja Metroid game, and the atmosphere was appropriate. I wasn't distracted by the changes in perspective and was able to make smooth transitions after a few initial playthroughs, nor was I disappointed by the more-linear Fusion like flow of the game. Again, I find it ironic that I am able to find a satifsying well-paced action game in Metroid before I am able to find one in Castlevania. I will definitely play through this again on Hard after knocking off some of my pile of shame. 9/10
