I'm on vacation in North Carolina and finally found an acceptable beer store (although buying beer in the grocery store sure is liberating). Anyone know of any local brews/breweries I should check out?

I've only had the Belgian Golden so far, but I liked it. I suspect some of the others would be even better.

2009 Clipper City Big DIPA. I've always said this beer benefits from a year in the bottle... Now I can say it REALLY benefits from two. The hops are still present, but take a backseat to the caramel/toffee sweetness. Totally awesome. Still representative of the style, but way more interesting than it is when young.

Recommended.

What's up with all the soju in California? Places that serve no other alcohol serve soju in their bootleg cocktails.

I'd never even heard of it before moving out here, now it's at 24-hour diners.

Highland brewery! awesome oatmeal stout.

Oatmeal Porter?
Because I had one, and yes! Quite nice! Not too strong but very pleasant.

I did manage to pick up an amazing Oude Kriek.
It smelled like rotten barbecue sauce from the bottle. The taste reminded me of Kombucha but way better, obviously with sour cherries at the front.

Also had a He'Brew Vertical Jewbilation. Very good!
