Ended up riding my bike to Dry Dock's brewery, a good brewery in Denver I expect you'll see some of their shit nationally within the next couple of years.
They had a nice sour beer that was apparently a complete accident with their barrels trying to make an amber ale. It was very smooth, pretty easy to drink.
It just came out - I doubt storage was an issue. More likely, it's the nature of the style (barleywine) that's much, much better to let sit for a couple of years. Barleywines are difficult to pull off to begin with, much harder if you're drinking it without letting it age.
