Another failed experiment in hops. Very sharp in taste and smell. This is the first Southern Tier beer I've been disappointed in. Salty soup.

I really like porters. I really really like smoked porters. I really really really like Stone Smoked Porter. Good mouthfeel, dark and smokey. I highly recommend this one.

Clipper City Siren Noire Imperial Chocolate Stout

This was awesome. Not much of a head, and a lighter mouthfeel than expected, but very tasty. The chocolate is right up there in your face, but somehow not overpowering. These released in the beginning of FeburaryIf you can still find one of these, get it.

"Malt beverage with ginger" Yeah, no shit. The ginger is right up there in your grill. I don't remember it being so present when I had this on thanksgiving. It is tart in a refreshing sort of way. I would drink this after cutting the lawn, assuming I had nothing to do the rest of the day. Also assuming I had a lawn. Smells like Midas Touch. Kind of tastes like it too? I don't know. This is a gimmicky beer, but it's still worth a try.

Weyerbacher Old Heathen for me tonight.

I'm a little disappointed by it. It's smooth and the high alcohol content is buried well, but the fruity finish is a bit overpowering, and not really what I want in a stout.

That heavy seas sounds right up my alley. Where can it be found?

I am at the Dogfish brewpup in Delaware right now. It is god damn overwhelming. Detailed report tomorrow!

Check it... back from my weekend beer-a-thon where we went to the Dogfish brewery, and the brewpup. HEre's what I tried out over the weekend:

Shelter Pale Ale: English style pale ale. crisp, balanced.
Lawnmower Light: this is their entry level beer. It's Bud Light. Seriously.
Namaste: Belgian Wit. This tastes EXACTLY like the Allagash White, which I certainly don't mind at all.
Randalized 90min: This is the 90 min run through the randalizer, which basically is like dry hopping every glass of beer that's poured. As you would expect, this really increases the hop flavour. I noticed it more in the back end of things.
Randalized Aprihop: Aprihop this year is hoppier and has a better balance than previous beers. The randalizer was packed with fresh apricots and hops. Gave this beer a wicked sweet up front taste, and a crisp hop finish. Totally awesome.
75 min IPA Cask: This is a blend of 60 and 90 min with an extra run of dry hopping, and aged with maple syrup, then served from a cask (which I am starting to feel is the only proper way to enjoy beer) This was AWESOME. Totally unique from the 60 and the 90. Maybe the best beer I had all weekend.
08 Immort: this is a ridiculously complex ale. Certainly not an everyday beer, but totally worth picking up a 4 pack if you see one, and enjoying over the course of a year. I picked up a bottle of 06 Immort while at the brewery. Looking forward to cracking it open.
08 Fort: Still too fucking strong. I don't care for this one much. you can really taste the 18% alcohol
08 Chicory Stout: This is a tasty, sweet coffee stout.
08 Black and Blue: I don't care for this much. This tasted more of blueberries than the 09 I had recently.
Life & Limb: Big, dark, strong fucking beer. I wish I could find a couple bottles of this, but alas, I can not... and I've really been looking. Absurd ebay prices...
08 Palo Santo: Malty, caramel, wood. After dinner beer imo.
Burton Baton: 90min and oak aged English strong ale blended together. Great hop characteristic and kind of citrusy?
Wrath of Pecan: reminded me of the Indian Brown ale in a way. Picked up some bottles from the brewery, which is the only place they will be selling them. (P.S. they are already sold out. Without paying absurd ebay prices or going to the Delaware brewpub within the next few days you shan't be trying this one)

05 Burton Baton:

Way thicker, darker, with caramel notes and VERY strong. Complex. Poured with no head at all, and low carbonation. I had a difficult time finishing this glass because the abv jumped quite a bit in the last five years. This beer makes a very strong argument for proper beer aging.

Liquor De Malt:

They only bottled 400 of these. It is 40oz of bottle conditioned malt liquor that comes in a hand stamped paper bag. They sold them for one day at the brewpub. One per person. I got two One for soon and one for who knows when. I get a kick out of the fact that their rarest beer is a 40oz. These have gone for INSANE prices on ebay in the past... if they get there again I'll be selling one of mine for sure.
