Thread: The Dead Thread

  1. I've always found the interest in Manson puzzling. I'm all about serial killers/crime documentaries/forensics etc but he was consistently the least interesting one that got the most coverage.

  2. I think the entire narrative is fascinating (both the reality and Bugliosi's lies,) but he does not fit the typical profile of any serial killer, and I don't feel like he should be lumped in with most. His story really comes in with how much the media built him up as a monster, but the reality of the situation is far more mundane than people like to believe.

  3. So, not a super-genius.
    Boo, Hiss.

  4. Exactly! He was a really common criminal, absolutely nothing outstanding. But pop culture made him out to be Hitler Jr.

  5. He killed some high profile and successful people that hobknobbed with the Hollywood media. That's probably the driver there.

  6. Yeah, but he didn’t kill anyone.

  7. He used his power and influence over others to get them to do the killing for him. Based on today's standards I believe that's the same as killing them personally.

  8. Probably also rape.
    Boo, Hiss.

  9. Rape and coercion, totally. But, the death penalty has never been doled out for rape (of an adult) or coercion without actually being at the murder scene, except in this case. There are definitely reasons that he should be in prison, but it's not on the same level as killing them whatsoever. There's really not any other cases of offenders receiving the death penalty for conspiracy, ever.

  10. Give it time, is what I’m saying. He won’t live long enough to see it but if we continue down this path we’re on that’s how it’ll be.
