I'm about 4 - 5 hours into it now and wrote up some thoughts on it. So far I'm liking it a lot. I would suggest turning the sword swing to the relaxed setting.
Didn't see a thread for this yet. The reviews point to flaws but looks to be the first decent motionplus title for non-golfers or Mii lovers.

Tried it a few hours last night. I have to say it's not disappointing so far, even exceeding some of my expectations. Maybe it's because I only saw youtube vids of it, but the game runs much smoother than I would've imagined. Moving between guns and swords takes some getting used to, but there have been a few flawless battles. I'm assuming the more I play the better I'll get at it.
The more I play, the more I like. Combat has a very arcadey feel - easy to understand and you get better at it as you play. Like Bayonetta, I've yet to see new purchased moves matter in any way that would keep me from the standard attacks. I suppose its good for show and certain situations, plus some moves (used as finishers) gain more cash. Can't fault it for being playable enough at the basest of levels, only to add layers 'for fun'
The missions are getting a bit redundant. Had to find a sheriff, then this girl, then hack a com tower for the girl, then a boss. Got into lowtown and...I've had to find the sheriff, the girl, and a com tower again. Weird. Although the non-story missions have variety. Some have you destroying trucks, looking for cash stashes, and vandalizing wanted posters. So far, any reason to throw me into a fight has been reason enough.
I like what they did with Motion+ even though it's not what everyone expected. Slashes still trigger canned animations and though it follows your movements for blocking, it breaks down to vert/hori for everything. The devs had said this was to make it more accessible (not everyone's a sword master irl) and that makes sense, albeit a shame. I DO like that the M+ registers the strength of a swing well - limp wristed flicks are worth minor damage while a full arm swing is the strongest.
Graphically its a lot of fun. It's one of the better Wii games visually, aesthetically, and runs at 60fps practically nonstop. The music is really fun for the Western Samurai theme and the presentation, UI, et al are well done.
It's essentially 100 times better than Red Steel, not a hard feat, but a solid game too. Color me surprised...twice so, seeing as Ubisoft put no marketing push behind such a well made game.
There's a lame ad spot for it, honestly as the only meaningful motion+ game Nintendo should be pushing it too.
About three hours in and enjoying it quite a bit. Easily as immersive and beautiful as Corruption, if a bit lacking in precision and organization (as Hero touched on).
I think Nintendo's done more to push it than Ubi, honestly. Although it's all promo/dev/gameplay vids via the Nintendo Channel. Which in way...is kinda a better distribution for that stuff than TV these days.
It's a shame most game sites seem to be tepid about it though. It's a solid game - not amazing but well executed and great to go through. No worse than a lot of shit that gets waaaay overhyped for what you actually get (Dante's Inferno, etc).
Also: I reaaaaaaaaaaaally like their solution to sword fighting and pointing with the lock on stuff. Makes me think if we get Motion+ in the next Zelda, it should work on a similar wavelength. Make it all adventure-y and use the pointer for arrows/hookshot/whatev and when Link locks to an enemy, the remote is used for sword fighting mostly.

I do like that the next set of baddies introduced play smarter/more aggressive than the beginning set, but that both are still found throughout the game. Means that sometimes you get easy cash, sometimes you're harassed by minor baddies while dealing with a smarter one, and sometimes the deck is stacked against you. Also liking that as a section is cleared out, it can always be repopulated with guys ala a random battle in RPGs.
Appreciate that you can change the difficulty at any time too. Wasn't too sure how good the controls would work so started on easy, then switched to medium mid-fight because it was too much a cakewalk. Haven't tried the hardest though...
I'd recommend it to anyone who likes brawler games in general and the Motion+ conceptually, if not in practice. Seems like the kind of game that lacks a lot of extras, but could still be replayable because its so easy to dive into and progress.
