But not for prolonged periods of time. Most, if not every, jail has protective custody instead of isolation for inmates that are in danger. I'm sure if it was because he was in danger the military would be able to keep 1 kid safe.

There's no reason to even keep the guy in prison in the first place. He hasn't even been charged and it's not like he'll be able to get access to classified data again. They could have put an anklet on him and placed him under house arrest.
