Don't come to the US. We don't want you.

The US wants me. I've already had job offers from California.

How we have a middle class at all is puzzling.

You can go to the store and buy two pounds of chicken for 5 bucks. I pay 12. The system in America was designed by a government run by the people, and while it isn't perfect it certainly isn't the raping going on up here. It is not that different in structure, but the amount you pay every yet in net taxes is far less than what I pay in net taxes.
When I was reading about taxation I think average net taxation per state was around 40%. Ontario's is estimated to be above 70%. I have to work until the fucking end of July to actually start making money for myself. I didn't even start paying attention until I saw a Penn & Teller: Bullshit! episode last year about it. And now we get gouged on internet usage in what is estimated to be 1000's of % above the cost to the suppliers.
Canada has a limited amount of providers, remember. Like Bell, Telus, Wind and Rogers.

Moving to the states is one way to solve your problem, and probably your best bet if you plan on running your own business.
For me, bartering for goods and services has made my tax situation pretty much ideal. My yearly income is usually just enough to pay the bills and buy necessary stuff, and everything else comes from doing skilled labour in exchange for goods and services.
I almost never pay income tax, and I currently have about $20K in unused deductions to carry forward.
