Hopefully Amazon starts giving $10 credit for preorders for these games. Rolling those over would soften the blow considerably.

Oh yeah. that too! $40 - $50 a pop? Just wait til you hear from Sony. I'm sure they'll argue since NGP is more powerful it obviously deserves to sell $50-60 software. Have fun.
Exactly - quick hit games used to be the bread and butter of consoles too - and when they were moved off there, they dominated and became the face for portable gaming devices. As I said prior, rather than continue in this tradition, it appears Nintendo is all too happy to cede that style of play to Apple and smartphones? But I really don't understand this "handheld console" bullshit. The quick hit game genres are being dominated by smart phones, and portables' entire existence has always been based on taking console games with you.
People with friends, family, a niece, a girlfriend. Sure it doesn't ruin the gamer's experience, but it makes it harder to show off the thing to other people. Which in the longview is more to Nintendo's detriment than anyone else...they can't get customers to act as demonstrators to other potential customers. However they can always hand the thing off. It's a nuanced nitpick, but it exists.Who the fuck has onlookers for portable games?
Funny, considering a retread of an overworked series (RR) and port of a good game with a system that forces the dpad to sit in the backseat (SSF4) are the "stellar must buys" people are pulling for in this thread. At least Pilotwings benefits from depth of field (so would RR I assume), and the IP hasn't been used since...what, the N64?STFU about Pilotwings. It's a tech demo that only Nintendo fans would pay to own.
No kidding.I feel as though I need to go shower. I just defended Nintendo hardware to Hero. Bizarro world!
Amazon delivered mine today. It's really nice. Nothing quite like new hardware.

Bought Ghost Recon and SSF4. Might by Ridge Racer later today, haven't decided.
Ghost Recon is very well designed, as one might expect from Julian "X-Com" Gollop. The 3D effect is subtle but useful in judging terrain and cover, both of which affect your accuracy and damage. I'm playing through on Veteran and it's a decent challenge. I like being able to upgrade my squad's weapons, health, and abilities.
SSF4 plays great with the D-pad; it's one of the best I've seen on a Nintendo product, very clicky and responsive. I wish they had just redesigned the game to use only the face buttons rather than map the strong and roundhouse buttons to the triggers. Game looks great in 3D.
I was very skeptical of this thing but Ghost Recon of all things put me over the top. I just hope they make a new F-Zero for it. F-Zero 3DX or whatever. Make it happen, Nintendo.
I am interested to see how the new Nintendo app store plans to compete with iOS. This is a wonderful time to be a handheld gamer. Sony and Apple have finally broken Nintendo's portable monopoly, so I expect great things from everyone.

May have already been mentioned, but a new Rocket Slime game is coming. The one on DS was so delightful (way more fun than any of the stale DQ DS remakes).
We've always had a combination of arcadey games and longer games on consoles and handhelds. I mean shit stuff like Metroid and Zelda were right there along with Mario in the formative years of the NES. Guess what those games were there too on the original Gameboy. There were shooters, and other arcadey games right along with the longer style games. This is NOTHING new. NOTHING. You're seeing shit that just isn't there. You're only seeing what you want to see basically. There have been AAA blockbuster games on handhelds before. Through out each generation. I mean shit did you not see some of the games released on the DS and PSP. Or hell even the GBA. Also care to point out which of the 3DS games announced is a 60 hour game? Are you trying to say that Metroid II and Link's Awakening were short arcadey games? Or hell Final Fantasy Legend? That game was in no way an arcadey short burst game. Those games were all right up there with their console counter parts of their day.
Lets look at the GBA and the splurge of Strategy RPGS it got, those are in NO WAY short burts arcadey games. Then you have Link To the Past on it, and Minish Cap. I mean seriously dude the AAA blockbuster long form game on handhelds has been there SINCE DAY FUCKING ONE!
Looking at the DS and PSP there are just as many arcadey short burst games as there are longform AAA blockbusters and RPGS on them.
I've given examples, all you've done is say again they're doing things differently. SHOW ME EXAMPLES.
Gaming has not changed that much since the 8 bit days as people want to think it has. Sure some genres have come and gone, and new ones replaced them. It doesn't change though that consoles (and handhelds) from DAY ONE have been home to arcadey, short burst experiences, and longer AAA "epics". What the hell do you think the original Legend of Zelda was. Or going back even further Adventure was.
Shin Johnpv's right on this (except replace "since day one" with "since the original Game Boy").
