Hero, have you used a portable device made in the last 4 years? People don't care about a long battery.
There are no 3DS games getting press as must-haves. That's the real problem, not the lack of "burst session games."
I've been playing portable games since the early 1990's and I wasn't aware that the "real value" of those devices was "the ability to play without a narrow field of vision." It sounds like you are just making shit up at this point.
$250 was just too high a price for a Nintendo portable. The screen is nice, and the 3D isn't even necessary to the enjoyment of the device itself. It'll sell fine with the lower price and once there are actually games for it.
I remember this device with two screens, where the bottom was a touch screen, and it had a microphone, gimmicky as all get out. I don't think that one sold too well either.

The Vita is going to run into the exact same problems.
Why would anybody buy a portable if it doesn't have a phone, a media player, a web browser, a general app store, and a large supply of $2 games? You need a phone anyway, and your phone will already have all of that.
The upside of physical buttons and large-scale games is almost vanishingly small in comparison.
