I hope this means the DSi XL gets dropped to $99 or less.

Excluding that, I can't think of any time a console manufacturer has done something like this, giving the early adopters something other than a "thanks for the support (now go fuck yourself)" to soothe the sting of buying at launch price only to see a drop. Of course, this is probably the earliest drop I've ever seen, too.

The only thing that comes to mind is Sega giving registered Saturn owners Virtua Fighter Remix to atone for the shit quality of the original port.

You make a good point, I've bought most, if not all, of my 3DS games on "lol, nobody buys 3DS" sales. Being an early adopter isn't all bad.

I bought Ridge Racer for $15 at K Mart on launch day and have bought nothing physical or virtual since! I did get three other games on Goozex, one of which was Pilotwings that I couldn't re-trade fast enough.

I wonder what the other 5 will be. F-Zero, Mario Golf, ALttP, Kirby, Advance Wars, Golden Sun, etc. There's a lot of good options here.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars! I'm dying to double-dip on this. Haven't touched it since finishing it in '96 or whenever it came out. Still my favorite of the Mario RPGs.

The price drop is sooner and more substantial than we all anticipated, but not a biggie for me in the end. I still love games and especially portables enough where it would have been torture seeing and reading/hearing about the 3DS at launch but not owning one. Well worth $80 to me.

Ridge Racer was totally worth it. Thanks for reminding me why I got the 3DS to begin with.

I do expect a 3DS XL to be announced around the time of Vita's release with a $229 price tag and better camera.

The Vita is going to run into the exact same problems.

Why would anybody buy a portable if it doesn't have a phone, a media player, a web browser, a general app store, and a large supply of $2 games? You need a phone anyway, and your phone will already have all of that.

The upside of physical buttons and large-scale games is almost vanishingly small in comparison.

That's the reason why Vita won't be a huge success, not the reason why 3DS flopped (and Wii sales have virtually ground to a halt). Nintendo's casual gaming bubble finally burst, in large part because of Apple/smartphones.
