I'm getting a little tired of having various devices all sitting around plugged in all the time. With my DS Lite and DSi, I keep them in a drawer, play them when needed, and when they need a charge, I pull out the cable and plug them in for a night. What I really don't want is another device that has to have a specific location and dedicated wall outlet for constant re-charging. Probably not a big deal if you're living in a house with a wide variety of rooms and possible places to leave stuff, but I'm in a smaller apartment that I really want to keep uncluttered.
I already have to have space reserved for two cellphones and two laptops to constantly be plugged in. I know it isn't a BIG deal, but it is for me.
And really, beyond that, it's just the huge difference in usage and mindset between the DS and 3DS. I liked the ability to take my DS with me somewhere and, based on casual usage, not have to think about recharging it for days. I charged the DS up before I took it with me, and then didn't have to really worry. That's one of the many reasons I ended up loving the DS.
It's like going from a car that gets 40MPG to one that gets 20MPG. Sure, just stop and fill it up more - but it's still that mental conditioning you've come under for what kind of experience you should be getting.
I cannot fathom why anyone would buy a PSP in 2011, so that's pretty powerful.
You're also not in Japan, where the PSP market is still huge and thriving. The PSP is becoming the go-to platform for Japanese developers who can't or won't make the jump to HD gaming.
