Thread: Official Nintendo 3DS, 3DS XL, 2DS, "New" 3DS, & "New" 2DS XL Thread.

  1. It wasn't a rumor. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-0...-in-stock.html

YAMAUCHI HAS KILLED FOR LESS THAN THIS.

  2. It's overly harsh to attribute this to ineptitude. There was a very positive reaction to the 3DS, and while battery life and price could be better, it also happened to be released at the worst time ever. Earthquakes, tsunamis, and unsteady economies punched this thing in the throat repeatedly.

They do. I like how in some of the Extra modes, the morphing mazes seem to grow out of the screen.

I really want to emphasize how cool the 3D effect looks in the classic Pac-Man and Galaga game modes. It's really clever stuff. It uses layers of text to create that strange glowy effect those old cabinets had. It's hard for me to describe, because I don't know the technology that well, but you know the way the letters used to glow against the old CRT monitors? It does that.

  4. The Vita is going to have the same problems as 3DS, only worse.

Anyone who thinks the Vita launch will be any different is kidding themselves.

iOS and Android have completely upended the portable market. The shitty economy isn't helping either.

Nintendo's key to success will be the eShop.

The Vita is going to be a piece of new tech released during the height of the holiday shopping season. New hardware released in that window generally does gangbusters... Look at Kinect, look at the DS, look at PS3. And those had no real reason to sell, Vita's launch lineup looks like gold next to what those shipped with.

They won't have any trouble with Vita being successful off the bat. Its fate rests on whether they keeps the streak of interesting releases going into the next year, or let it fall into the same big post-launch lull that follows most hardware launches.

I wasn't interested in this before, but it sounds really cool the way you describe it.

This is probably the primary fuckup. They saw the writing on the wall for the Wii, so they shat out the 3DS too quickly hoping for pad the bottom line for the early 2011 financial reports. With no software, and terrible timing (March? Really?) I don't really know what Nintendo was expecting. I mean, sales are going pretty much exactly how everyone on TNL thought it would, are we really smarter than Nintendo's financial analysts?

Nintendo's key to success is selling to kids too young for smart phones. They will do that after the price drop. 3DS was too expensive for the market.

  9. And it has nothing worth paying that price for.

No, because Namco pulled that "you can't delete your save data" bullshit with this game. I'm not supporting that.
