Thread: Tell us about your local favorites

  1. It can't really be just six people at this forum that know what's going on around them?

  2. #22
Most people don't pay attention to local music.

I don't have time to do anything anymore.

Hopefully after the move to Boston (eventually) I'll start catching more shows at the Middle East and some other places I've got lined up that are full of bands that I haven't heard of.

Last show I saw was the New Pornographers, and the opening act sucked. Next show I'm seeing is...oh I'm seeing Electric Six for like the ninth time too many at Maxwell's, and then I'm seeing the Lips at Summerstage.

I have a girlfriend now who, while rad, is a regular woman when it comes to music instead of a crazy rad ass one, so I've been to three Dave concerts and I'm seeing the Zak Brown Band, and we're probably going to end up seeing Badfish too.

I'm getting five hours of sleep tonight and then working til 2am.

The point is like catching random small shows at Maxwell's or anywhere else, like Brooklyn or fucking Kearny, even on a random night just don't happen for me anymore. I liked River City Extension a bit when they opened for Flogging Molly and Big D, they're NJ local, and I liked this band that opened for Bomb the Music Industry, O Pioneers!!! but they're from fucking Canada. The only other bands I see are through friends who are in bands, and none of that shit has been very good lately. There was a kick-ass drummer in the band that opened for some of my friends the other night, but the rest of it kinda blew.

Local music around here is mostly Epitaph records style punk, metal, and hardcore. They're good at what they do but it's not really my thing. The punk scene in particular is pretty conformist too, you've got to have the look or else you're a faggot.

  5. Laugh Other Austin TX bands that are sweet.

I already posted Northern Paradox but I wanted to share Muchos Backflips and Opposite day with you as well. They put on an excellent live show. There is also a sweet three piece called Megaphauna... I know a few of you here are from Dallas. Keep an eye for these bands they travel to Dallas often.

They play here a bit. They are awesome.

    Zeke
Zeke are the all time kings of Seattle.
Fuck yeah! One of the first bands I got into!
    The Spits
And The Spits are the all time kings of all what is punk.
I don't know about that, but they are rad.

Anyways, this is gonna be a long list. Defunct bands okay?
To boldly go where lots of men have gone before...

  8. For a grouchy oldster like me, defunct bands might be all the better! I won't stop you from listing anything you like but I suppose the original focus was on what's current. I dunno, tell me about bands. I'll probably be glad

  9. Amboogalard from back in Florida. Best thrash band around. Geordie went on to play bass with Manson.
    Boo, Hiss.
