I'm really excited for this. Going to a screening tonight, and if it's awesome, I'm going to try to see it on IMAX this weekend.
It's pandering, that's pretty clear. That in itself isn't a death knell - but it can be. Usually is.

I'd go with the second one, if I'm going off of Watchmen and 300. I might catch it on rental, 'cause it's the kind of doodling I'd do at 12.
Yeah, I am not too sure about this movie. Look like it could go either way. Might be alright going in with the right attitude, but why pay the money when you have to do that?
The latter is totally fine as long as it's fairly rare and well done. If there were like five movies this year that were all this kind of nonsense action with random awesome backgrounds it would get boring pretty fast, but I love having this stuff crop up here and there.
Going to a midnight showing tomorrow, am excite.
I don't think it is rare anymore, though, nor is it generally well done. It seems like action movies have in recent years gone from being cool to profoundly stupid and childish. We can't just settle for a movie with a badass that spouts some one-liners and shoots a lot of bad guys. Now he has to drive his car off a cliff and then stand on top of it as it goes over and then jump onto a helicopter that he throws into a tank full of big-titted female ninjas. It's just retarded.
I miss when action movies were cool. Not only is goofy cartoony horseshit the norm, but I can't even think of the last really good action movie was that I could compare to Die Hard or Robocop or Terminator 2. It just doesn't happen anymore.
I'm not looking for high brow, just something for grown ups.

Battle:LA was good.
Red as well.

And one of your titles is about a robot cop that shoots people in the balls while fighting pimps and then uses a rocket launcher to blow up a giant mech after a mutant explodes all over a car in a fountain of gore. I love Robocop, but let's not pretend it wasn't full of patently ridiculous moments back in the day.
That being said, since the movies you listed I would mention Casino Royale, the first Matrix, the Bourne Identity, Batman Begins, Mission Impossible III, the new Star Trek, and probably some others I'm forgetting as good action movies that are cool for old folks. Star Trek might be a little too much young people + scifi, but I thought it was awesome and normally I don't really care much about that series.
