Thread: Sucker Punch

  1. This movie had a lot of cool shit in it (steampowered clockwork Nazi zombies, sexy women, that one cool Bjork song, A giant dragon, tactical weaponry, Giant mechanized samurai, sexy girls, etc.) and it sounded and looked awesome, but I think the plot was a little too stupid-clever for my liking. It's clear that there's a bunch of symbolism there, but it's not terribly well done. And I'm not completely clear on what was actually happening in the (real world) during the video game levels.

If you go see it, see it on IMAX. It's that kind of movie.

Ill see it at the cinerama dome. even though i hate the place.

    Red as well.
Red is EXACTLY what I'm complaining about.

Exactly. I'm not asking for that much, really. It can be over the top. Just not over the top retarded.

Star Trek might be a little too much young people + scifi, but I thought it was awesome and normally I don't really care much about that series.
I thought Star Trek was really dumb and loud and too coy, but I suppose the action was well done enough. The Matrix and Bourne Identity are like 10 years old. Even Batman Begins is like what, 7 years old at this point? I'm really talking about a trend in the last 5 years or so. Post Sin City, anyway (and I liked Sin City, but it opened some doors I wish it didn't).

I guess there's still some decent superhero stuff like Dark Knight and Ironman, at least.

lol no. Both movies are bad, Iron Man is awful.

I would put Taken in there, all it is is Liam Neeson beating up greasy Eurotrash for 90 minutes. It gets a bit silly at the end but the core of the movie is there.

I liked Iron Man considerably less than everyone else here, but it didn't suffer from the sickness I'm talking about. When I said "decent" I didn't really mean "good."

The action itself may not have been exaggerated like the other stuff I'm talking about, but this movie is COMPLETELY braindead, pathetic, trying-too-hard bullshit, and the hilariously bad writing destroys anything that might have worked about it, replacing what should have been badassness with silliness and camp. I am completely dumbfounded how people actually liked this movie.

Luc Besson may win the award for sharpest falloff as a writer. The Professional had shades of cheese but was generally awesome and then everything after that has gotten increasingly childish and stupid.

  6. Angel-A ruled. How dare you.

  7. Frog, are you talking the shit on The Fifth Element? Shameful.

  8. Red wasn't bad, but wasn't that good either. It is forgettable, but then most movies are.

Fuck, yeah, I have to give him that one, too, I forgot that was him. But after that it was straight down hill. Transporter is so bad, and From Paris with Love is just shameful.

I didn't actually see Red, but I saw the trailer and I saw Bruce Willis throw a car into a spinout and then casually walk out of it while shooting in slow motion. So I will never bother to see it.

Wanted, you are also the problem.

  10. Red could have done without that slow-mo car thing and the slow-mo Malkovitch missle shot.

But If you ignore those 10 seconds total of the movie, it's pretty enjoyable.
