Thread: Battlefield 3

  1. I still think its crazy how little theyve showed of multiplayer - most importantly next to no multiplayer vehicle gameplay. Nada. Plus this alpha is the same map shown at e3. We've seen one multiplayer map. One. We are 3 months from launch - they are obviously crunching big time. The game seems VERY unfinished so close to launch. From the DICE blog just last week: "That’s not to say this is a feature in Battlefield 3 – the game’s still in heavy development and the full list of features has yet to be revealed."

    Thats not to say vehicle gameplay isnt in the game tho - because maps like Gulf of Oman and Wake are confirmed there. Still leaves me skeptical they are going to make the oct 25th date. Looks like the full day one release is going to be the beta at this point.

    EDIT: Im reading spotting is altered yet again - this time it supposedly only marks the enemies last seen location and doesn't follow them. Seems like a perfect compromise. Can anyone on the BF3 alpha confirm? I bet sedition is playing it heh. I have been playing loads of hardcore mode in BC2 to remove the spots altogether.

I don't know how I feel about that spotting mechanic, but I suppose I'd have to experience it from both sides to really see how I feel about it because on the one hand I love knowing when someone is turning the corner of a building so I can fuck their shit up but I hate when I'm that guy turning the corner.

  3. Seeing a red dot moving inside of a building is a wall hack plain and simple. From what I understand - they included 3d spotting in the first place because it makes it easier to see the enemy for people using standard televisions. The old PC BF games limited spotting to the mini map only, much better - but this new system (if its true) I can live with. Hardcore does away with all of the spotting anyways - tho the issue there is that it splits the community.

  4. The new spotting system seems ALOT better and may bring the community split between hardcore and reg together. The lack of early betas and such tell me that the game will be derivative of BC2. I really don't expect this to be our dream game simply because its being developed for consoles and PC. They can say that the lead platform is PC but more and more, I feel that unless there are 2 seperate teams making 2 seperate games under the same name, PC will have bigger maps and prettier graphics but console will be the un-antialisized version on the same game with multiplayer being played on the 32 player versions of the same maps.

    This game will not have the squad/commander dynamic and it will be inferior to Battlefield 2.

    Have you confirmed what I read about it? Like I said I havent actually seen the spotting system in action. Also about BF3 PC/console, its still hard to call it that way changeling. We havent seen any conquest stuff - and huge maps like Gulf of Oman are confirmed in the game. That map is unlike any BC one alone. Large scale, vehicles everywhere. Why wouldnt there be more maps of that style? I want the scale of a BF2 map and the detail/destruction of BC2 - and thatll sorta make up for commanders. I keep picturing a map like White Pass being one small section of a BF3 map. We'll see.

  7. Word on the street is that DICE is hiring like mad as we speak trying to get more help to finish this game in time. heh.

    Alpha seems very rough with bugs but the core gameplay looks very impressive. Watching gameplay on the final base of this alpha map gives that sense of a more open world map. That base looks incredible.

    Some tidbits I found interesting:
    - rush is prolly gonna stick with 4 player squads, changeling. any money 64 player CQ will have 6 players per squad or greater.
    - If you didnt know, squad leaders are back. You can only spawn on the leader. Leader can spawn on anyone. This is a nice balance from the overpowered "spawn on anyone" of BC2.
    - There is tons of recoil despite what im reading elsewhere. I watched a vid that displayed each gun's recoil in each firing mode and from standing to prone. Lots o recoil. the guns rise when the trigger is held down too - in BC2 they settled back to the exact spot you left it. Recoil is more relevant on a bigger/open map too which this map is only in spots - hence the "no recoil" comments.
    - the spotting is still a work in progress according to the main BF3 designer, just today he said this on twitter.
    - standing to prone (diving) accuracy seems way too high, from vids it seems getting up from prone your accuracy gets FUBARed. Thats ass backwards. probably will get tweaked. Leave the drop shots to COD please.
    - knife is only a one hit kill from the back. no more bs people running up while getting shot in the face and still knifing you.
    - this alpha map reminds me of combat mission from Medal of Honor, my favorite thing about that game. Bigger gameplay and environment changes from base to base than the BC games IMO.
    - vehicles seem to have a lot more armor
    - the sound is incredible. it seems there is subtle music at the end of tickets and near the end of rounds when the last charge is set.

    cant wait to see a large conquest map on this engine.

    If they are hiring like mad, it's for another reason. That or they are extremely dumb.

    Basically goes for my point that they arent going to finish this in time. Itll still hit the oct date but we will be getting shipped the beta or worse. No excuse for not showing any conquest or vehicle gameplay in a core battlefield title just 3 months from launch. They did an internal studio interview with the BF3 Karkand expansion team 3 months ago or so and the devs looked like absolute zombies who havent slept in weeks. Imagine them now, heh.
