Three new expansions announced.

Battlefield 3: Close Quarters – In Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, players are dropped into a frantic, infantry-only theatre of war. Frostbite 2 high definition destruction makes the environment come alive as everything from furniture to plaster gets shot to pieces. Players will feel the intensity of the world exploding around them as rubble and broken pieces pile up on the floor, while tight level design and vertical gameplay create a highly competitive environment. Battlefield 3: Close Quarters also introduces new weapons, assignments and unique dog tags to bring back to the base game.

Battlefield 3: Armored Kill – Following the tight infantry gameplay of Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, DICE will release Battlefield 3: Armored Kill that ups the ante for vehicular mayhem as only Battlefield can do. Featuring new driveable tanks, ATVs, mobile artillery and more, Battlefield 3: Armored Kill also delivers huge battlefields for an all-out vehicle assault, including the biggest map in Battlefield history.

Battlefield 3: End Game – The fourth expansion pack will ship in the winter but details remain tightly guarded.

I hate how they are taking the ALL infantry or ALL vehicles approach to level design. What happened to making maps that had some of both?

I'm guessing these will be pay to play expansions?

I REALLY hope their close quarters maps aren't like Metro or Seine Crossing. Those maps are fucking garbage. Its really shitty that we have to wait till summer for something new to play. Typical Dice, not supporting their games till its too late. Then again, there isn't really anything on the horizon, FPS-wise so I guess it doesn't matter.

Installing the PC version now, I'll try out a few games this weekend. I'm sure to be the worst player ever since I'm months behind everyone else, but if anyone wants to join me let me know.

I think the decreased level of destruction is one of the main things that made this less fun than Bad Company 2. Plus you still had the crappy 24-player limit slowing the action down.

Most of the map designs in this game feel more like COD than Battlefield with all the tight spaces and cluttered choke points. I can't imagine these new maps will be any better.

So this week sees BF3's huge patch on PC and PS3 (360 will get it "soon"). There's some big, game-altering stuff in here - quite possibily the largest FPS patch content/fixes-wise ever released. The biggest of which IMO is the entire gunplay mechanics are altered back to the series' past, where managing burst fire once again (rightfully) rules the day. Every single gun in the game and their attachments have been altered and tweaked individually (see patch notes for exact details). All cheap guns and exploits are being removed and/or fixed. Of course this is causing a big stur on the official boards of people who have been living off USAS frag rounds, MAV roadkills, and the FAMAS the past 5 months. "I cant aim anymore!" is a common cry since the patch hit.

We said way back pre-launch that BF3 was being rushed out the gate to beat MW3 - and this was pretty much the case with all the issues and overall lack of polish. Spring 2012's patch is basically the real version of Battlefield 3 - and probably what the game would have been if it was delayed.
