Thread: Enslaved: Odyssey To The West

  1. Enslaved: Odyssey To The West

This game comes out this Tuesday, and I think I'm going to pick it up after having tried the demo. The controls seem a little twitchy and not as precise as I'd like, and the combat is visceral, but not particularly deep.

On the other hand, the graphics and story/characters/acting seem really good and I'm looking forward to playing through some of the environments. Andy Serkis (of LOTR fame) is directing a lot of the game and also acting in it and the guy who wrote 28 Days Later and Sunshine came up with the story. I guess the original idea for the game was an Unreal Engine powered feature film. Seems like the game could be a sleeper.

Anyone else check out the demo and/or is picking the game up on Tuesday?

  3. Looks like it will be fun, but I'm gunna wait on it because of what else is coming out/shit I have that I haven't really played.

  4. It comes out the same day as Castlevania. It's a good thing my life is a fucking joke! Or else I wouldn't find time to be able to play both.

A friend of mine is super excited about this coming out and told me to check out the demo more than a few times (Which I still haven't done). It does look like a game I'd probably enjoy, although I'm not super excited enough to pick it up immediately.

  6. I will wait for it to hit bargain bin as well.

  7. I'm going to have to wait too. I really liked the demo but I'm just too busy right now to play it. I'd have cheerfully paid full price if it came out mid-summer.

I have tried the demo and my opinion mirrors mostly what I've read of professional reviews: the setting and characters are fresh, at least as fresh as a retake of Saiyuki can be, but it's belabored under some sluggish gameplay. The parkour/gymnastics have been done better and the combat, while cinematic, lacks a certain rewarding strategy to it, but I can't say that I hate it. It's just not worth full price by a good margin.

  9. Thankfully for Ninja Theory, there are plenty of people nowadays who like to play games with terrible gameplay, as long as the story and art is good.

This. I would like to play it, but I'm aiming for rental or bargain bin.
