Lol @ Yoshi. How old is she now?
You didn't buy it? I thought you were pumped for it?
I got it on PC and there are hardly any graphic options besides resolution, aa and "hi res textures."
Looks good. Not great![]()

Also being a fan of having to not pay to play online, I bought this too for PS3. I know I have Compass and Yoshi up on PSN, but if anyone else wants another friend for some challenges and recommendations, add Moccarocca.
MechDeus said it best a few posts back; it's an NFS game molded as closely as it could to being Burnout without it feeling like it's losing part of what defines it and I love it for that. Also love Criterion and had to just shell the cash for this.
How's everyone else doing in this game? I was getting some rather poor times until I learned how to brake better and since that leap, the game has gone from frustrating to brilliant. It looks really nice, too. Haven't tried any Distinctions (Cop Races). Saving those for until I reach at least Racer Rank 15 or something.
They use the newer STi, which both looks like shit and is a worse vehicle than the older models. So gross.
Also: What's up with these weapons? This is turning into Wipeout and getting kind of dumb. Oh Criterion, I used to love you so much.
One thing the game keeps from the previous Burnout games is the insane rubber-banding, yeesh. I like how I can beat all of my friend's times in an event and still finish 5th. It's especially annoying in the Hot Pursuit events since you have the other racers and the police to deal with, and you can wreck from too much damage but the CPU will not (which is dumb, especially since the cop cars can wreck).
I find the cop events more fun as they are different from what you would find in most racing games (that and there's no rubber-band AI to deal with), but trying to go for top times in them is immensely frustrating, especially if you're playing against a friend when the CPU decided to veer into traffic and let the player T-bone them at 200mph.
In regards to the weapons, the cop side all make sense (except for the EMP, luls) and the previous NFS games let you drop spike strips and call in roadblocks to begin with. The racer weapons... a balance consideration? I dunno. It doesn't bother me -- then again, they could have made the game about little anime girls racing around in pink mechs and I would probably play it if it was good.

I've never been a big Porsche fan and even scoffed when I first saw the sedan. "A four-door Porsche?! Psh. What's the point." I felt the same about the SUV when it debuted and have not recanted. The Panamera, though...
When I allowed my eyes to truly feast on the car's lines... well, I came away thoroughly nourished. I now believe it to be the single finest looking car on the road today.
For that reason alone: NFS:HP > Gran Turismo 5

I can see it for the cops side, at least for roadblocks and helicopters, but it's so randomly James Bond to have homing missile EMPs and secret spike traps that drive themselves down the road. The other issue is that I hate weapon-based racing games but love "physical" fighting in racing, so for them to add the former and half-ass the latter is annoying to me.
Ah well, better luck next time.
The moving spike strips actually make sense from a physics standpoint -- the strip is going to keep the velocity of the car (as they were one moving body until the spikes were deployed) and then it slows down and comes to a stop due to the friction with the ground. Now it's actual behavior may seem off (and it does), but I'm willing to write that off as a change made for balance reasons.
