Thread: Time for the Next Generation?

Serial games have to have decent sales, first. COD games offered a good game experience to start off. Sure, it did it back when WW2 games were a dime a dozen - but it stood out in the consumer consciousness for a reason. You can only serial release games that build up steam in some way. And typically they start to diminish in returns (GTA3 and it's clones, and COD as examples). Give it 2 or 3 years and there will be another must-have game coming out annually to replace the COD mad dash. GOW 3 kind of ran like that, too.

Doesn't 360 have a better game attach rate than the PS3 and Wii? I remember reading that a year or so ago but can't find the article. I own more games for the 360 than any other system (I only have 4 games for my PS3). I usually sell games once I've exhausted them, though (or don't play them within a year) to mitigate the cost of new titles I want.

  2. This sounds correct, I'm certainly follow that logic, I think for every ps3 game I have 4 xbox games, and before I discovered better living through borrowing from the internet on the Wii I think I had a total of 5 games?

I'd assume the attach rate is the same.

  3. Gears > Uncharted 2 in terms of awesome.

  4. I don’t see the need for new hardware (save for the Wii of course). The visuals this gen still amaze me. Do we really need something that looks better than, say, Uncharted 3? Even taking the visuals out of the equation and just speaking in regards to current control schemes, I’m pretty happy with where gaming is at currently. I’m not as annoyed as others with motion control and I’m more than satisfied with a good ol’ DualShock 3 or Xbox controller. If the current gen stuck around for another 5 years, I’d be completely content.

  5. Controllers aren't what they used to be even last gen. They're flimsy, aesthetically unappealing, and stuffed with proprietary shit that sent the cost to nearly double what it used to be. Give me the option to opt out of motion controlling and I don't care. Give me a shitty d-pad and there's the rub. It would cost them maybe 15 more cents for a decent d-pad. Fuck you, do it.

The PS3's triggers need to go, too. They don't feel natural.

Is there any point to that? The primary reason to having a separate GPU is to help free up the CPU to handle AI, physics, and pretty much everything else that's going on. Showing off that the PS3 can render a scene of still objects without the GPU strikes me as vaguely interesting but completely useless.

No way dude. The PS360 still costs $300. And I still don't own one. The $150 non-retard pack mark is where you start talking about a new gen.

I think those days may be over. You're not getting a non-retard 360 for $150 when MS is selling the proprietary hard drives for almost that much.

Hey, I know what would stimulate new IP! $600 hardware and $70 games for consumers with a large increase in development cost for developers! I bet we'd never see a Call of Duty game again if that happened! Nothin' but Sedrana the Left-Brained Caribou Castrater Golfs With Insurance Adjusters Who'd Rather Be Bowling stretching down the store shelves as far as the eye can see! New ideas would be everywhere I tells ya.

I missed this earlier. Does that mean you buy the worst version of every game? Because quality is what picks my platform, e.g. Bayonetta and Red Dead on 360, Vanquish and Castlevania on PS3, and essentially everything else on PC.
