Downloaded a bunch of discs last night (video) for a friend that all came as disc image files. I assume if I just use Image Burn and put them on a disc they're still data discs and won't play on a dvd player. So what do I need to do to make them work?

Well, first you have to heat the physical media DVD-R disc somehow before you put it in the drive; this "primes" the disc, and makes it ready to use. Not enough to damage the disc, mind you! Just enough to turn the center band slightly blue.
