Thread: Crysis 2

  1. Digital Foundry compares PS3 and 360. Odd they left out the PC, they usually include it. *edit* will be included on Saturday

360 runs native 720 while the PS3 runs 1024x720. The final framebuffer is sent to the RSX where it's bi linearly upscaled to native 720 (1280x720). This causes the HUD to have a different aspect ratio between the two. 360 version gets a 25% boost over the PS3 rev.

Some rare bugged lighting and shadows in PS3 version. Pieces of them disappear but look better up close.

    Regarding AA -
Another aspect that lessens the impact of the resolution difference is CryEngine 3's chosen anti-aliasing technique. Halo: Reach-style temporal anti-aliasing is being used on objects a set distance away from the camera, with an edge-detect/blur mechanism in play for elements close to the player. Both of these techniques add further blurring to the visual effects chain, and again serve to make the resolution gain on Xbox 360 less noticeable in the heat of the action. More resolution is obviously a good thing and there is an overall feeling that the image on Xbox 360 is cleaner and crisper, but only with a direct A to B comparison do you actually feel you're missing anything on the PS3 rendition of the game, which still looks very impressive.
V-sync on both possibly with an uncapped framerate. They claimed it will never dip below 30. It does but it's damned close. 360 gets an odd tear at the top of the screen even with v-sync but is unnoticeable during gameplay.

When the framerate dips the PS3 version holds up better.

  2. Is the "temporal anti-aliasing" what causes all that goofy blur in Reach? It looks absolutely awful.

    Time for new consoles.

Yes. And yes, it does look awful. I guess it's used because there's little to no performance hit.

I've heard that you can disable temporal AA using the command line in the PC version.

  4. I don't mind the temporal AA much anymore and it sure as hell isn't as bad as Halo Reach which looked horrible. In motion Halo Reach reminded me of the ghosting problems which plagued early lcd's. Some Crysis 2 players are disabling TAA and using MSAA which I don't think I can do with my Radeon 4870. Not sure the kind of fps hit I would get with it on too.

I hate that blur shit. I would much rather have some jaggies than that blur crap.

Yea, that's exactly what it looks like. It's funny how every Halo game has some really terrible IQ problem.

  7. Bungie isn't mensa material.

  8. Played this game on my new PC last night for a half hour. AVG kept recognizing the .exe as a virus so I just uninstalled AVG and boom, no more problems.

Looks amazing, currently running it at high settings on max widescreen resolution on a GTX 460.

Personally I like the changes to the suit thus far. I was never a big fan of the radial menu.
