I'm not sure what is worse. That vincent game was a huge disappointment. It should have played like devil may cry but ended up playing like a fps from ten years prior. And the maps were mostly craptastic. And the writing was pure japanese cheese.
I don't know how games keep dropping the ball on that. 3D castlevania should play like Devil May Cry. FF7 Vincent whatever, should play like Devil May Cry. That is the standard. If you aren't going to meet the level set by DMC, don't bother with trying to enter that level of gameplay.
Game character wise, Dante, Vincent and Alucard all fit into the same japanese character stereotype. Why do these companies not know that consumers are going to expect gameplay at least as good as DMC? It would be like making a JRPG version of DMC, making it like dragon quest 1, charging $60 for it and WONDERING WHY NO ONE BUYS IT.
