Thread: Official Wii U Thread

  1. It will be good when the next first party games and Japanese niche games come out eventually, but yeah, this launch line-up does not speak to me. I like Nintendo Land but I don't play games with other human beings anymore, and New Super Mario Bros. looks good but not 300 plus dollars good. Same goes for Zombie U (which gets additional points off for that name and Ubisoft).

What's that? I can't hear you over the whirr of your region-locked Japanese 360. That's the one you bought after your US 360. Hey, no fair! You can't vote for region-locking with your dollars twice! Let's leave the ballot-stuffing to the lee-burls, shall we?

Anyway, I'm surprised you were able to put your underpowered, region-locked, overpriced 3DS down long enough to fire her up!

  3. You know whats more disappointing than having to switch skins to leave rep? Doing so just to find out you must spread it around.

I've definitely been part of the problem. Hell, I bought a Wii. But I'm not going to exacerbate the problem any further. I don't own a 360 at all and haven't bought a 3DS game for maybe six months.

  5. The 360 isn't region locked. None of them are, I believe. It's up the publisher to decide what regions to include, which is usually only one because - reportedly - they have to pay for each region they include.

That's just a different form of region locking, and it isn't any better. Microsoft has an endless supply of hidden fees that screw the customer like that, not the least of which is making the developers pay for patching and additional content.

  7. For those interested here's what's available in the eShop to buy today.

Pricing for the digital-only versions of titles is identical to their pricing at retail:

    Assassin's Creed 3 - $59.99
    Darksiders 2 - $59.99
    Epic Mickey 2 - $59.99
    ESPN Sports Connection - $49.99
    FIFA 13 - $59.99
    Game Party Champions - $49.99
    Just Dance 4 - $49.99
    Madden NFL 13 - $59.99
    New Super Mario Bros. U - $59.99
    Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge - $59.99
    Nintendo Land - $59.99
    Rabbids Lands - $49.99
    Scribblenauts Unlimited - $59.99
    Sing Party - $49.99
    Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed - $39.99
    Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper - $59.99
    Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2013 - $49.99
    ZombiU - $59.99

The eShop includes a separate section for indie games. Current available titles include:

    Chasing Aurora - $14.99
    Little Inferno - $14.99
Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition - $9.99
    Nano Assault Neo - $9.99
    Trine 2: Director's Cut - $19.99
I do think its pretty fucking retarded to charge the same price for the digital as the retail. They're pulling that shit with their 3DS software as well, and that needs to change. Digital should be at a MINIMUM 10 bucks cheaper than retail, but no one wants to piss off the BnM places.

IGN has said that when it comes to the eShop publishers set their own prices, and can do their own sales. It's been said too that there is no charge for patches or DLC.

I'm kinda getting the new Nintendo hardware itch, but I just can't justify spending that kind of cash when there are only 3 games I want to play, and maybe two more announced for the future.

  9. The sooner this system fails the sooner Nintendo can go third party.

Fuck the Wii U and the 3DSXIXL.

OT: I got to try it at a Target. The controller is neat - it doesn't feel as big as it looks, is surprisingly light and solid, and the buttons are definitely better than the shitty ones on the 3DS (and better than the 3DSXL's). Overall it feels really...underwhelming. The controller's good, but it's like Nintendo has no direction (or is splitting it in a hundred different ways). Hate all you will on the Wii, at least Nintendo seemed to have a dedicated direction and philosophy for it and wanted something that was easy to understand for the non-gamer. Wii U takes a kitchen-sink approach to its hardware/OS/featureset and rather than sparking an excitement just feels confusing and...bleh.

Like, I know I'll get one for Mario, Monster Hunter, Rayman, and probably Epic Mickey. I'm in no rush for it though. I'm sure this media-settop-box they maybe-kinda-sorta want to do is the exact same thing that Sony and MS are doing with their systems and will continue with their new boxes. I don't really give a shit about that direction, so getting new consoles is getting far less appealing. Better to build a new PC and buy all these AAA, flavor of the week games on Steam for $5-10.

Every year is "THE END OF NINTENDO (tm)" since 1999.
