WoG was so good.
WoG was so good.
Portables dominate Japan but Nintendo is coming out of the gate ridiculously strong with Dragon Quest (DQ X Beta w/ Japanese deluxe set), Monster Hunter (MH 3 Ultimate), and New Super Mario Bros (NSMB U) all available day one at launch. That's like the perfect Japanese launch right there.
We've been seeing this with the 3DS already, and the recent Bayonetta 2 announcement accentuates it further, but Nintendo is shrewd as hell. They're locking up some good support and I wouldn't be surprised if they do a lot more of it with Japanese developers/publishers.
Catching lightning in a bottle again just like they did with the Wii is basically impossible, so re-positioning and strengthening themselves back towards gaming experiences is the smart move.
I'll say this for the whole download vs "real" game argument:
When you have kid/house concerns in your life and two jobs, it is really, really hard to give a $60, 20 hour shit about a game. I have two "real" games this generation: MK9 and Rock Band (3? 7? Over 9000? One of those). I have Netflix. That is what my ps3 does. When I wanna' play somethimg new, I have bought about a dozen psn games and assloads of Android games.
I can't say that the full budget treatment is even a factor anymore. Is it relatively cheap? Is it a concept I have only seen 10 times instead of 1000 times? Does it get to it with minimal padding? Then it already beat the "real" game.
I've bought lots of classic real games and a few new ones, nearly all download. Looking seriously at paying 60 for Borderlands 2. But it's not the same as an adult than a teenager. The money's there but not the endless time.
No gnus is good gnus.
In Dragon's Dogma, the NPCs irritate the hell out of you with their non-stop talking. That's how you discount that
Pre-ordered a Wii U as the known exclusives are enough for me. This may be the end of my console run so I'm comfortable with concluding with a Nintendo console. Nintendo releases are really the only titles I am fine with paying full MSRP for anyway, anything else I wait for $29.99 or less, so the Wii U will still host the majority of my dwindling Day One purchases. I personally thought this generation of consoles was outstanding, up there with the previous and better than the one before that. Gaming has been good to me and I will always be fond of it, but as Cheebs alluded to, there is only so much time.
