So far the main draw for Gold for me is being able to play stuff like Halo/Forza/whatever online, weekly sales, and some convenience related items.

I usually get mine at the discounted price but the caveat is of course the fact that it's tied to that payment option until it's over so I'm kind of a sitting duck for hackers if they compromise the network. Granted, you get some free stuff every once and a while but when you compare it to Sony's PSN model the Gold subscription should basically be the standard Silver. Silver is so stripped down you can hardly do anything with it which is lame so I'll be interested in whether Sony adapts Microsoft's online/apps locked behind Gold or if Microsoft will go with Sony's free to play online model and lock all the tv stuff behind Gold or whatever other tiers they come up with.

I really hope they are working on Halo 2 Anniversary, that's the only game that needs that HD upgrade and would really be awesome if they used the first Anniversary engine. As for the "Let's dazzle them with games so they can forget all the negative points this system has" strategy, that's definitely what they're going for.

Always necessary Kinect/pay extra for used or borrowed games/always checking for connection can be a real deal breaker so they're asking for people to tolerate a lot of stupid shit to get to their "awesome games" so they would have to be fucking amazing and take 100% advantage of the hardware for people to buy into it fully. It'll be REALLY interesting to see how they do the first year and what adjustments they make after all is said and done.

This is pretty much how I feel about it.

They know their audience - the current core gamer jumps on a new hype train every week or so, I could see all those loud criers of "XBOXDONE" buying an XBox One because who the fuck needs Principles when you have Shootmans?

Yep. Most will roll back their principles as soon as they've the opportunity to spend money.

  6. #1306
Said differently, most will stop pretending they have principles.

  7. I turn on videogames to get away from all that other stuff that I apply principles to. I just want good games and I want to be entertained.

Considering this is closing in on being a $10B industry, it could use more principled consumers.

  9. Maybe not everyone cares about some of these things seeing as how they already buy into some of these concepts on PC.
