Nah, that choice doesn't impact my decision at all.

  2. if it did, the quest would end, wouldn't it.

I've mentioned it before, but I had this dino-like customer who lambasted the Dreamcast for it "being ridiculous that every title isn't 60 fps!"
13 years and infinitely more horsepower later and it's still not a priority.

Ironically, Nintendo seems to be the only one for whom it is.

  4. It's never going to be a priority. Most people can't tell the difference between 30 and 60fps. I'm not saying it's not possible just that the average consumer can't tell. So developers focus on pushing more effects and other eye candy instead of the frame rate. That is never going to change, ever.

I don't believe this. I think COD's popularity is largely derived from the way it feels and how responsive it is. In other words, its framerate.

  7. Look at something like WoW for a second. That game can look great with 60fps and AA on with an average system, because it's stylish not texture and geometry driven.

I'd much rather developers worry about how a game runs and how clean it looks than how many polygons it has on its highly textured buildings. I think the worst decisions I've ever seen in this regard is the PS3 Star Ocean. Muddy over textured environments that your characters fucking blend right into and it ran like crap. There's no excuse for that. 60fps should be a standard and you put the best graphics you can muster into that model by making smart design choices.

  8. I hate that I'm about to say this. Look at WoW running at 60FPS with all that jazz, and then play FFXIV and get the same thing. My computer which is now 3 GPU's behind can run it on high and 60fps and it looks goregeous. You can up the graphic fidelity and keep the smooth framerate if you don't go to wild with it.

    That's why I like it.

  10. Bethesda has stated the reason they do so much recycling of animations and have as few as they do is because having as much as they wanted would make the game impossible to run, even though they can throw textures and models at it all day. To go back to WoW, look at how horribly crippled the game is with animation, to where mounts don't even have a turning animation. The long dragon serpents look like someone copy-pasted a 2D animation cycle when they fly around even though the environments are constantly getting bigger with better textures and more polygons; there's a reason most MMOs have an animation selection in their options menu. FFXIV 1.0 even had a selection to turn off the bouncing of waist-packs to improve framerate.

Then we can start getting into AI, which is another big sink. The whole reason they're locking this NFS at 30 right now (I say right now because I wouldn't be surprised if they hit 60 later in the console lifespan) is because they want to account for all the possibilities of how many AI cars might suddenly enter into one game at once, and they don't want it fluctuating around. The better your AI and the more NPCs utilizing it there are the more it's going to hit the system.

The best thing that a stylized look actually offers is the ability for your mind to more easily gloss over the animation screw-ups and ways things don't line up. The more realistic the look the better the animation needs to be in order to sell it, and that's going to hit up a system and framerate harder than higher-res textures and some particle effects.
