Do you understand how much better a VR headset from a major hardware player could be? The Rift is so impressive because it's the first serious attempt at consumer VR in over a decade, but it's still cobbled together from cell phone parts. Displays in particular are a matter of finding the one that just so happens to have the fewest problems because they aren't specifically made for VR's needs.
Things like refresh speed, latency, etc aren't normally concerns on a 5 inch screen, and pixel density has kind of hit its practical limit in terms of need for non-VR purposes. But if someone starts making screens specifically for this purpose they will blow the Rift away. The Rift is only special by virtue of vision.
Do you understand that I'm not going to buy a head display that only works with one system?
I already explained my reasoning for why I stated what I did. Read the thread.
Ruh roh. Ignore my earlier statement, they don't know what they're doing. That would increase the tracking latency by about 50 times compared to the accelerometer in the Rift and it would have a full 360 range.
Maybe it'll be cheap at least?
EDIT: Unless they're using it to track movements and an accelerometer to track tilt. That would actually be a good step up, and makes more sense.
