I agree, if the streaming worked as well as Netflix (on the same PlayStation) I'd be fine with the streaming rental. It doesn't, at least not for me, and I've got a decent amount of internet speed.
Thing I do not want to do- watch movies in VR. TV is a social thing as far as I'm concerned, and VR is, at best, turn-based. I get a turn, someone else gets a turn, we compare notes. That's great for gaming but movies? Nope, don't want.
I've said several times that good VR brings something to gaming that not only wasn't there before but is also more important and interesting than, for example, motion controls. Hell, VR made a third-person action platformer feel fresh, new, and exciting. That's an amazing accomplishment, and one I expect is going to appeal to anyone who gets to experience it. As Joust said, lets pick this up 3/04/17 and see how it all turns out.

VR movies are the Sega CD FMV games of the new millennium. They will exist but they will be the worst thing you could do with all that new technology. A cave man's attempt to explore a new medium using the vocabulary of an old medium. People will rapidly lose interest in them once they learn how to better apply that new technology.
Even the porn industry is having trouble figuring out how to use VR.

VR porn will probably be a thing someday, but it's going to have to be performance capture and 3D body scanning not live action. Just making a bubble of imagery is not very interesting to anyone.
Maybe when stuff like Google's Project Tango evolves a bit further there will ways to "film" stuff in true 3D (as opposed to just stereoscopic), and something resembling live-action movies in VR might work, but I think by then no one will be very interested because we'll have figured out better things to do with VR.
If I'm going to buy into VR, it's going to be a headset/helmet and a standard-type controller. I don't want motion-sensitive crap that's linked to my body motions. I understand the appeal of this from an immersion standpoint and even from a commercial standpoint, but if I want to get up and move around I'll do it without something on my head.
If you can teach 'em music you can teach 'em fucking. Porn Hero, by Activision!
So many 3D Japanese porn visual novels incoming.
