Am I the only one who thinks Gamespot's "hands on previews" are pure crap? Every single paragraphy is just filled with back stories and nothing but positive comments on how well the game SHOULD be. They always go on and on about how mindblowing the graphics will be, how the programmers hope to recreate a super fun happy blah blah, and stuff like that.
I'm paying $20 a year and I want to read both positive and negative aspects of future games I am interested in. If a game sucks, tell me. It seems like they find one good thing about any game and just talk about that or focus on the plot or something. That's nice if the graphics are good, but does the control suck?
Their reviews are somewhat better, but not spectacular. I guess I expect more information about how a game looks/plays if it is indeed a hands on preview. What do you think?

I rarely read the previews. I just pay to watch the movies like Andy does. I also like to get it for the reviews and some of the video reviews are nice too.

Well, what major sites have ever been able to bash a game in previews? Unless it's completely hidious most major games sites and magazines don't want to bash a game early on in fear of losing support from the game's publsiher. It's like that at every major site.

True. Every preview I've ever seen has been overly optimistic to even games so bad calling them "complete shit is the best this game could hope to achieve" wouldn't be a hard enough insult.
It's always: "If the jaggies and god awful sound is improved, the only hurdle left will be getting frame rate about 5 FPS. Acclaim assured us these glitches will be ironed out in time for the game's release date".
OXM's previews surprisingly have negative comments sort of built into them so they're never 100% praise. That's about the only good thing I can say about OXM mag though...
I gave up on reading Gamespot and IGN a long time ago. Found their text in conflict with my views of reality and I like my reality more than theirs.

I think this question was asked to one of the major online sites, and the answer they gave is that even though you know a game will be utter shit when it comes out, you have to remain optimistic in case any drastic changes(right, like army men games make complete turn-arounds) are made before release. ALso, they said its not good etiquette(sp?) to go around doing that, as you are playing an unfinished product. Matter of fact, it was in the ignps2 mail section that it was asked.
