Thread: Dungeon Raid (iOS)

  1. Dungeon Raid (iOS)

Anyone play this? I got the Lite version yesterday and it's a really great twist on the match-3 puzzle stuff. It supports GameCenter leaderboards and OpenFeint.

Unlike Puzzle Quest, the monsters are on the field. The basic idea is that you have to link swords to enemies to defeat them. They hit you based on how many of them are on the field. Match potions to regain health, shields to regain... shield, and coins to gain money. There are spells, powers, upgradable equipment, etc. I wish the game had a fleshed out RPG mode like Puzzle Quest (it all seems to happen in one field, with difficulty ramping up quickly), but it's a lot of fun.

Lite version free with ads and $2.99 for the real deal.

  2. Thanks for the heads up. I'll give it a try later today.

  3. I downloaded this about a week ago. It's a great game, one of my favorite iPhone titles. Think of it as a rogue-like version of Puzzle Quest.

  4. It's great except the game drags for too long when you start over. Takes forever to get the first skill.

  5. Confirmed: This game is totally worth the $3. I like it. I just wish it had more continuity. It feels like every play is a new game. You just lose everything from the last game aside from any character classes you unlock.

  6. I've actually had this on my phone for months, but only got around to playing it yesterday, and now I'm hopelessly addicted. So good. I like the rogue-like restarting for every game, but then I really like rogue-likes.

  7. This is pretty tough! I've only unlocked one class so far (rogue). Some of the special enemies are real nut-punchers. The Alpha (or whichever one turns swords into skulls) is such a bastard.

  8. Yeah, I've only unlocked the Paladin, whose resurrect spell is really really handy ("If you die this turn you will resurrect with full health"). I got killed on my best run by a enemy that breaks swords and shields every turn. I just ran out of pieces.

    This game is so good.

I've unlocked about 5 classes, and then my next unlock upgraded a class. Now I can customize the + - a tiny bit. Cool!

The one ultra-mega nut puncher is the spiked skull. You take equal damage for every point of damage you deal to it, and it always appears with 70 or more health. So you have to chip away and pray that more potions drop than skulls. Pretty much if you don't have the teleport spell, you're fucked. So I always grab that one when it is offered.

What spells do you guys hope for? I like to stock up with teleport, turn coins to swords, counter attack, and trap.

Anybody have a favorite class? Mine is the halfling thing with the large nose and derpy hair cut. Item pickups in groups of 3 don't add anything, but Item pickups in groups of 10 or more guarantee giant ass bonuses. It sets up a unique play style where you don't dare collect any group of three, yet you also don't dare collect any group of 8 or 9. As soon as that group of 10 shows up, BAM! Upgrade.

  10. PROTIP: to unlock all the classes, play as an Adventurer. Because you can't level up as an Adventurer, every trophy you get will unlock a new class. I've now unlocked every class except Assassin.

I expected to catch up on some video gaming this Memorial Day weekend, but instead I mostly just played this game :/
